HUGHIE ALLEN "PapPa" CYRUS, 96, of Barboursville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with the Rev. Bob Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Minerva Lodge #13 AF&AM. Hughie was born Nov. 15, 1909, in Ona, a son of the late Naomi Smith Cyrus and Joseph Warren Cyrus. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Katherine "Nanny" Geneva Mallory Cyrus; five brothers, Carl, Arch, Warren, Hunter and Clarence; and seven sisters, Ada Keyser, Georgia Gibson, Nettie Cyrus, Alma Cyrus, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Cyrus, Hettie Cyrus and Jewell Chapman. Hughie is survived by one daughter, Katherine Jane McDermott and her husband William "Bill" McDermott of Ona; two grandchildren, Alan McDermott and his wife Lynda of Ona, Misty Adkins and her husband Shannon of Ona; four great-grandsons, William and Adam McDermott and Kegan and Kylar Adkins; a host of nieces and nephews; two special friends, Richard and Margie Burgess; and his buddy, Yvonne Ferguson. Hughie was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, a 58-year member of Minerva Lodge #13 AF&AM Barboursville, Guyandotte #10 RAM, and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was retired from the Reclamation Plant, Barboursville, as a welder for the C&O Railway. Hughie was proud to have completed his education at the one room Watson School. He loved working in his wood-working shop where he made many and gave much. Friends may call after noon Sunday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
