CRAWLEY - Robert D. "Bob" Tharp, 65, of Kieffer, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center of Ronceverte.
Born Nov. 18, 1944, at Blaker Mills, he was the son of the late Morgan Neel and Shirley E. McMillion Tharp.
Mr. Tharp was a member of the Beaver Creek Baptist Church of Kieffer. He and his son were avid hunters and enjoyed the outdoors. Bob graduated from Rupert High School in 1963, Concord College in 1967, and earned his Masters Degree from West Virginia University. He taught school in Lewisburg, Summersville, Greenbrier West, Princeton, and Bluefield. Bob retired as principal at Smoot Elementary School, and formerly worked for the Bureau of Mines.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half brother, Gerald C. "Dutch" McMillion.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara L. Deitz Tharp; a daughter, Christina Honnert (Mitch) of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Greg Tharp (Rebecca) of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Betty Tharp of Rupert and Zora Ashley of Lancaster, Ohio; three brothers, Morgan E. Tharp (Patricia of Columbus, Ind., Melvin Richard Tharp (Gail) of Clintonville, and William J. Tharp (Janet) of Glasgow; and one grandchild Justin K. Honnert of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with Pastor Gary Eisenman officiating. Burial will follow in Burns Cemetery, Kieffer.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
