Rites Conducted Friday Afternoon For Mrs. McCoy
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love has given,
And though the body slumbers now
The soul is safe in Heaven.
Susan Morrison Squires, eighth daughter of Wm. G. and Maria J. Squires, was born near Salt Lick Bridge, in Braxton County, West Virginia on March 27, 1864, and passed from this life at her home in Calumet, July 9, 1946.
She was converted at the early age of seven and joined United Brethren Church in West Virginia.
On September 11, 1884, she was united in marriage to Charles Edward McCoy. To this union nine daughters were born, all of whom grew to womanhood. One daughter, Mrs. Roll Jones passed away at the age of 49 years on July 10, 1939.
In February 1907 they moved to Calumet, Oklahoma with their family, where she has since resided. Her husband passed from this life on April 8 1943.
Mrs. McCoy united with the Methodist Church the same year they moved here and was a charter member. She was a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. The church services were not complete unless Mrs. McCoy was sitting in her usual place. Very few services were ever missed by her.
