"Sonny" Hanson, 88, of Reisterstown, and formerly of Westminster, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at BridgingLife Dove House. Born September 21, 1935 in Lewisburg, WV he was the son of the late Leslie Lowell and Martha Elizabeth (Armentrout) Hanson. He was the cherished husband of 25 years to the late Evelyn Hanson, who predeceased him June 2023. Sonny was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as an MP in New Mexico after training in South Carolina. He was a graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1955. Sonny grew up on the family farm in Westminster, developing a love for farming early on. He continued to work on the farm throughout his life, raising beef cattle and helping the Bullock family with their herds as well. He was a skilled carpenter by trade, and in his younger years had a passion for NASCAR racing, traveling to watch car races with his friends. He often attended farm and livestock auctions in the area. Surviving him are stepchildren Sharon Evans (Greg), Danny Clatterbuck (Cindy), and Nancy Sweeney; siblings Emma Beaver (Jim), Deborah Hanson, Duane Hanson, and Daryl Hanson (Pat); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by sisters Wilma Sharrer, and Thelma Hanson. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 6 to 8pm at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. His funeral service will be Thursday, October 12th at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery.
