Deaths & Funerals
NEW LEXINGTON - Layton L. "Shorty" Mills, 69, of 611 North St., New Lexington, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 1989 at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Mills was a reitred employee of the Peabody Coal Co. in New Lexington and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was member of Eagles Lodge No. 2070 and Corning American Legion Post No. 376.
He was born in Balkan, Ky. Nov. 12, 1919 to Layton and Hattie (Collins) Mills.
Mr. Mills is survived by his wife, the former Norma Jean Allen, of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robin L. and Kenneth D., both of Covington, Ky.; five daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Cheryl) Sinift of McConnelsville, Mrs. Clifford (Karen) Murphy of Zanesville, Mrs. Eric (Lisa) Schoonover of New Lexington; Mrs. Douglas (Brenda) Russell of Corning and Angela C. Anderson of the home; one brother James E. of Connecticut; eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Gerald and Guy.
Calling hours are from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Chute Funeral Home in New Lexington, and one hour prior to services which are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nazarene of New Lexington with Pastor Randy Lanham officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemeter, New Lexington, with full military honors.
