BLUEFIELD -- Larry Wayne Walkup, 74, of Lakeland Park, Bluefield passed peacefully Sunday evening, June 5, 2016 after a courageous battle with lung cancer, only to hear his Lord & Savior whisper into his ear, "Well done thy good and faithful servant, welcome home."
Born November 20, 1940 at Willowton, he was the son of the late Carl Tony Walkup Jr. & Dorothy Leola Meadows Walkup. Larry served his country proudly for three years in the U.S. Navy. Larry was well known within the coal industry, having been the manager of National Coil in Bluefield and later retiring as Plant Manager for Horner Electric in Indiana. He was an active member of Fairview Christian Community Church near Princeton and also the Willowton Christian Church.
Larry loved his family and church family and while his health permitted, he loved to fish and go to the beach.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 53 years, B.J. "Betty Jo" H. Walkup; Two children: Donna & Johnie Gordon of Bluefield, Mark & Amber Walkup of Willowton; Four grandchildren: John Weston & Cathy Gordon, Evan Gordon, Aaron & Caitlin Walkup, Morgan Walkup & Kevin. Great-grandchildren: Makayla, Jackson, Briannah and soon to be, another great-grandchild named Wyatt. Two siblings: Toney & Mickey Jo Walkup, Stanley & Karen Walkup.
Services to celebrate the life of Larry Walkup will be held 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening, June 8, 2016 from the Fairview Christian Community Church on the Beckley Road with Pastor Larry Dyer officiating. The W.Va. Honor Guard will present the flag to the family.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday evening at the church from 6:00 P.M. until the service hour.

The family will honor Larry's request, following the services, his body will be cremated.
