Two Deaths Raise Road Toll to 619
The deaths of two out-of-state men in separate accidents have lifted Virginia's highway toll to 619, or 54 ahead, of the count a year ago.
JACK H. COYLE, 54, of Frankfort, Ky., was killed yesterday when the car he was driving and a tractor-trailer collided on U. S. Rt. 11 about two miles south of Mt. Jackson in Shenandoah county. The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as George William Ireland of Louisville, Ky.
JAMES ELBERT SIMS, 21, of Washington, was killed yesterday when the car in which he was riding skidded on U. S. Rt. 1 and struck a tree about seven miles south of Petersburg.
Arvis Johnson, 37, of Route 1, Stephens City, was killed late yesterday when two trucks collided on private property being cleared for instruction of Int. Rt. 81 two miles south of Stephens City. Since the fatality occurred on private property, it does not count In the highway toll.
