  The Daily News Leader, Staunton, VA, Online Edition, 25 September 2007 HARRISONBURG - Gertrude Crone Jones, 94, formerly of Longmeadow Road in Fishersville, died Sept. 23, 2007, at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg. She was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Greenbrier County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jacob and Emma (Clingman) Crone. She was a longtime member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church. Gertrude enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Henry Jones; daughters, Frances Brannock and Charlotte Jones; sister, Kathleen McLain; brothers Roy, Okey, Jacob and Paul Crone; and an infant grandson, Michael Armstrong Freed. Surviving are her children, Peggy Papke and husband, Donald, of Salem, Ore., James Jones and wife, Linda, of Fishersville, Margaret Freed and husband, Carl, of Crimora and Joy Moody and husband, Bob, of Staunton; grandchildren, David Martin Brannock, Kym Brannock Ramsey and husband, William, Julie Papke Granning and husband, Eric, Jeff Papke and wife, Crista, Kelly Jones Snell and husband, Bobby, Ashley Jones Campbell, Wesley Freed and wife, Jyl, Kevin Freed and wife, Kim, Kathy Freed Quimby and husband, Alan, Chris Moody and wife, Tracy, and Greg Moody and wife, Holly. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Summer and Paige Ramsey, Abigail and Lauren Papke, Holly, Rachael and Chance Snell, Zac Campbell, Kendall Freed, Elizabeth and Ryan Quimby and Brooke and Jordan Moody; and her sisters, June Hodges, Bessie Lotts, Barbara Shifflett and Elsie Jones. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Revs. Jason Whitener and Clifford D. Caldwell. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 at Meredith Chapel at Sunnyside by the Rev. Paul O'Gorek. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.
