BECKLEY, W. Va. - Ruth Mildred Smith 90, formerly of Pax, Glen Daniel, Beckley and neighboring areas, died and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jan. 24, 2012, at Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington, North Carolina.
She was born April 5, 1921, as one of nine children of the late William Hubbard and Lillie Meadows Hubbard. She was the widow of the late John M. Smith, a native of Crawley, Greenbrier County.
Survivors include son John of Ashton, and daughters Nancy and husband Jess Athey of Pax, Janet and husband Karl Lilly of Sissonville and Annette and husband Steve Windsor of Mebane, N.C.; grandchildren Jeffrey Athey of Beckley, John Athey of Jackson, Ohio, Joey Athey or Beckley, Kevin Smith of Teays Valley, Mark Smith of Florida, Marshall Smith of Fayetteville, Michelle Smith of Florida, Karen Fisher of South Charleston, Mary Harrison of Sissonville, Jennifer Swinford of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Beth Floyd of Burlington, N.C., and Josh Windsor of Mebane, N.C.; sisters Mary Bradshaw, Glenna August, Betty Clay and Norma McNeill and brother Lewis; as well as 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Brother Charles Hubbard and sisters Pauline Kinser and Lillian Legg preceded her in death.
Services will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at 1 p.m. with visitation beginning at noon at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Brian Harmon officiating.
