Deaths...And...Funerals
Oscar P. Gill
Funeral services for Oscar Pemberton Gill, 76, Lanark will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Gill ded [sic] Monday at a local hospital after a long illness.
A retired coal miner, he was a member of the United Mine Workers local 5821.
Gill died Monday at a local Church of God of Prophecy in Lanark.
Born Sept. 6, 1897 in Raleigh County, he was a son of the late Harvey and Nancy Smith Gill.
Survivors include his wife, Verlie Ann; a daughter, Mrs. Mildres Berry, Dearborn, Mich.; two sons, Cleo Jackson, Beckley, and Claude Vernard, Piney View; three stepsons, Russell and Houston Redden, both of Crab Orchard and Clayton Redden, Oak Hill; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Fannie Jefferies, Minden, Mrs. Goldie Jeffries, Oak Hill, and Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson and Mrs. June Martin, both of Lanark; a brother, Walton Gill, Stanaford; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Shirkey, Raleigh, Mrs. Elva Berry, Stanaford, and Mrs. Annie Mosley, Riverview, Fla.; 47 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Gill was preceded in death by two sons, Clayton and Clinton.
Friends may call at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel Wednesday after 5 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Mills, Daniel Brock, Bobby Baker, Bill Welch, Earnest Keller Jr. and Ralph Adkins.
