Otis Bevins Dies On Fourth Street
Otis L. Bevins, 64-year-old resident of Piney View, died last night at the home of his daughter, Miss Marie Bivens of 106 Fourth St., with whom he had been visiting for a week.
He had worked in the coal mine all his life and had operated a mine of his own before retiring about five years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie Bevins of Piney View.
The body will remain at the Melton Mortuary pending completion of the funeral arrangements.

Last Rites Set For Otis L. Bevins, 64
Funeral services for Otis L. Bevins, 64, of Piney View, who died Thursday evening, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today by the Rev. L. A. Garten. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
He was employed prior to his retirement as a mine foreman for the Mason Coal Co. and was a member of the Baptist Church at Royal for the past 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maud Bevins; one son, Barney Bivens, at home; four daughters, Mrs. T. M. Hazelgrove and Mrs. Ralph Withrow, both of 411 Orchard Avenue, Miss Marion Bivens of 106 Fourth Street, and Mrs. Everett Richmond of Grandview Road; three sister, Mrs. Lottie Hutchison of East Beckley, Mrs. R. V. Trump of McCreery, and Mrs. H. H. Humphrey of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, James Bivens of Quinnimont and Herman Bivens of Edenburd, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Active pallbearers will be Ray Garten, T. W. Farley, J. M. Radford, Ronald Garten, Herbert Garten, and Norvel Smith.
