On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, our beloved Mother, Rosa Arlene Milam Elkins, went quietly to the arms of her Savior, in the comfort of her home at Glen Daniel following a long illness. Surrounded by her family, she was in her 91st year.
The eldest of five children, Arlene was born on Dec. 15, 1925, at Smoot. Her parents were Everette E. and Amye Ellen Callison Milam of Glen Daniel. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Nettie Dancy, Mildred Fink, and Roy E. Milam. Arlene was the fond sister of Delmar Milam and his wife, Lois, of Charlotte, NC.
Arlene has been blessed with a large family of her own and they have been blessed with her. Left to cherish her loving memory are her sons, Charles Agnor Jr. and wife, Barbara, and their children, Cara and Grace of Franklin, OH, and Chad Agnor of Texas; Everette "Buster" Agnor and his wife, Betty, of Beckley and their children, Amy Hurst (Reggie) of Hickory, NC, and Darla Moomaw (Kenny) of Cool Ridge, Matthew Agnor (Amy) of Wilmington, NC, Jimmy Agnor (Christy) of Beckley and Ricky Agnor (Stacy) of Mt. Hope; daughters, Edna Darlene Agnor of Glen Daniel and Karen Rickard and her husband, Dale, of Fairdale, and their children, Jenny Belcher of Fairdale and Jessica Mason (Justin) of Lester.
Affectionately known as "Ma Maw" to her eleven grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, Arlene was extremely proud of all of them. There is also a large extended family of nieces, nephews, many good neighbors and her church families. With the many blessings there are always great losses. In addition to her parents and siblings, Arlene was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Everett O. Elkins Jr., a granddaughter, Leveta Blankenship, and an infant great-grandson, Travis Drennon.
On Monday, May 22, at 1:00 pm we will say "Goodbye Until Meet Again," with a Home-Going Service at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Larry Brown will be officiating. Arlene will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at 11:00 am on Monday.
Many thanks to the members of the Maynor Freewill Baptist Church for the loving cards and phone calls during Arlene's illness; much love and heartfelt gratitude to our good friends for all their help in taking care of Mom. She loved all of you dearly and you know who you are.
The family suggests donations of sympathy can be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802, or St. Jude Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
