Glen White Youth Hunting Accident Victim Yesterday
LEWISBURG, Nov 6, Alfred A. Cord, 17-year-old Glen White boy, was accidentally shot about noon today by a hunting companion on Alleghany Mountain in Anthonys Creek District. The youth, shot through the head, died a short time after being admitted to the hospital in Ronceverte. According to a report made to Sgt. Walter Hampton, investigating officer, young Cord was shot while peeling potatoes in preparation for lunch. The officer was told that Robert W. Slate, 19, also of Glen White, was in the act of shooting at a mark on a tree and the gun was accidentally discharged, the bullet striking Cord. A third member of the hunting party, Donald Snuffer, 17 of Glen White, returned this afternoon with Sgt. Hampton to the scene of the shooting. However the investigating officer had not made his report of the accident late today. The fatally-wounded youth was rushed to the Ronceverte Hospital, where he died between 2 and 3 o'clock. The accident occurred only about 75 yards from the Virginia line in Greenbrier County.
