MEADOW BLUFF - Stella R. Hunter, 88, of Meadow Bluff, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at her home following a long illness.
Born on January 29, 1922, at Oswald, Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Virginia Haley Phipps.
Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker and attended Soule United Methodist Church at Meadow Bluff. Stella blessed many with her baking and cooking.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Roy M. Hunter (January 4, 2002); 1 daughter, Alice Faye Miller; 4 brothers, Hansford, Eddie, Frank and Noah Phipps; and 6 sisters, Effie Chase, Blanch Thompson, Margie Counts, Nellie Hiser, Louise Lloyd and Gertrude Thompson; and 1 son-in-law, Bill Miller.
Survivors include 2 sons, Warren Hunter (Kay) of Meadow Bluff and Wyatt Hunter (Bonnie) of Alta; 3 daughters, Shirley King (Jim) of Crawley, Dale Riffey (David) and Diana Miller all of Meadow Bluff; 1 brother, Ulysses Phipps of Arizona; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank her granddaughter, Dorothea Wickline, who took good care of her grandmother for the last year and a half.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Tincher officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Amwell Cemetery at Meadow Bluff.
Friends may call Saturday, May 8, at Smathers Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.
