RAINELLE - Theda Gale Powers, 76, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Onslow Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville, N.C., following a long illness. Born Oct. 10, 1925, in Rainelle, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee and Nellie Mae Surbaugh Fleshman. Mrs. Powers was a former member of the Rainelle Chapter of Eastern Star and a former postal worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, French B. Powers; and two sons, Mark L. Powers and Gary F. Powers. Survivors include two daughters, Nell P. Gwinn and her husband, Danny, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Lisa V. Brown and her husband, Mark, of Tobaccoville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow in Sewell Valley Church Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements by Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle.
