LESLIE - Helen Irene Walkup, 87, of Leslie, passed away Monday evening, Oct. 20, 2008, at her home, following a long illness.
Born July 5, 1921, at Bingham, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Betty Clara Fink Hizer.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quinwood.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wetzel Walkup, in 1991; eight sisters and three brothers; two grandsons, Rick Bostic and Wetzel Andrew Bostic; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Salisbury.
Survivors include six daughters, Saundra Bostic of Goldvein, Va., Mary Jo Persinger of St. Louis, Mo., Sharon McClung of Berryville, Va., Shelby Salisbury of Manassas, Va., Debbie Ailstock of Rupert, and Dr. Joan Jupin of Franklin, Pa.; a son, William Clarence Walkup of Midland, Va.; a sister, Minnie Walkup of Rupert; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, Oct. 24, 2008, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating, assisted by grandson Donald Bostic Jr. Burial will follow at Orient Hill Cemetery at Orient Hill.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service (1 to 2 p.m.) at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
