Luster Clark McCutcheon, Jr., age 84, a resident of Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, Maryland, died March 29, 1999, at Wilson Health Care Center, following long-term complications from a stroke.
Born May 10, 1914, at Richwood, he was the son of the late Dr. Luster Clark McCutcheon and Iva Talbert Shomo McCutcheon (second marriage to Barnewall). Dr. McCutcheon was a doctor in Green Bank from 1926 until his death in 1945.
Mr. McCutcheon was a retired teacher and founder in 1953 of McCutcheon Insurance Agency.
He was a founding member and Deacon of Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Montgomery County and Maryland State Retired Teachers Associations, Ali Ghan Shrine Temple; 32nd Scottish and York Rite Mason; charter member of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Elks Club. In World War II he served in the U. S. Navy as instructor in various radar and navigational schools; he taught in Pocahontas County from 1933 to 1947 and at Gaithersburg High School from 1948 to 1974. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Glenville State College and received his Master?s Degree in Education from West Virginia University.
Surviving him are his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth; sons, L. C. McCutcheon, III, of St. Leonard, Maryland, and James McCutcheon, of Gaithersburg; three grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leonard McCutcheon and Martha Linkins, Port St. Lucie, Florida, Bob McCutcheon, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Al Smith McCutcheon, of Talmadge, Ohio, Jean Britton, of Peterborough, New Hampshire, and Rachael McCutchan, of Annapolis, Maryland.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Rebecca McCutcheon and Marjorie Kanode, and a brother, John.
Memorial service will be held April 1 at 1 p. m. in Guild Memorial Chapel, Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Burial will be in Arbovale Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Children?s Burn Center, Shriner?s Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
