William Ralph Cunningham
William Ralph Cunningham, 93, of Elyria, a retired Elyria Schools employee, died Saturday at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain following a short illness.
Born in Shinnston, W.Va., he had been a resident of Elyria for the past 35 years.
He was employed for 14 years by Elyria Schools as a custodian before retiring in 1982.
Mr. Cunningham was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Elyria.
He also was a member of Jolly 60s and Silver Saints, both in Elyria. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home.
Survivors include his wife of six years, June (nee Bohannon); daughters Dorothy Shipe of Elyria, Wanema Thomas of Taylorsville, Utah, Dora Nichols of Lorain and Loretta Davis, Alma Lease and Marsha Norton, all of Newark; sons Marion V. of Willoughby and Billy Joe of Elyria; stepdaughters Judy Emerine, Roberta Howell and Melody Tijerina, all of Elyria, and Cindy Arwine of Lorain; stepsons Robert Clark of Kentucky and Danny Clark of Elyria; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilda (nee Rollyson), in 1992; his parents, William Preston and Dora Bell (nee Watson) Cunningham; a son, William E., in 1996; and sisters Lily McCully and Mary Fink.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road and state Route 57, Elyria, where funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The Rev. Charles Keesee, pastor of Midway Baptist Church, Elyria, and the Rev. Jim Gordon, pastor of Elyria Baptist Church, will co-officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
