- Margaret A. Garner
LEWISBURG - Margaret Alice Garner, 104, died 11:14 p.m. Dec. 13, 2002, at Greystone Landing, following an extended illness.
Born Jan. 27, 1898, at Crawley, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Jane Zopp Morrison.
At the age of 17 she married Gearls Garner. The couple owned several businesses in western Greenbrier County, principally the Rainelle Cleaners. In the early 50s, they moved to Lewisburg and were instrumental in developing the Garner-Detch Addition, where they built their first home, known as "Done Movin."
She held membership in Old Stone Presbyterian Church, was active in the Women of the Church and served the offices of secretary and treasurer. She held a life membership from Lewisburg Chapter No. 108, Order of the Eastern Star, Lewisburg, having served as worthy matron as well as a Mother Advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. She also served the OES as a Grand Chapter Officer and a Grand Representative, all during her many years as an Eastern Star member.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gearls in 1968; a brother, Bill Morrison; sisters, Anne Morrison, Lorena Jeter, Trixie G. Riggs, Ronda Moran and Blanche Hopkins; and her beloved nephew, Alan Jeter.
Survivors include nieces, Linda Moran Laney of White Sulphur Springs, Susan M. Lecher and husband, Richard, of Hacketstown, N.J., Julia Day of Richmond, Va., Frances Nalle of Fairfield, Conn., and Kenneth "Hoppi" Hopkins Jr. of Logan; as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Garner lived a long life, filled with good health and happiness. She had wit and humor that refreshed all. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at the Memorial Chapel of McCraw Funeral Home with the Rev. Dexter Taylor. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Visitation with family and friends will be one hour before the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
