  The Beckley Register-Herald, Online Edition CRAWLEY - Verna Sheppard, 96, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Sheppard; an infant son, Charles Grant; a grandson, James H. Crane; a brother; and three sisters. Mrs. Sheppard was a retired school teacher and a member of Big Clear Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Hilda Crane and husband, James; granddaughter, Brenda Brooks and husband, Hubert; great-grandson, Scott Brooks, his wife, Marcie, and daughter, Hanna Grace; great-granddaughters, Melissa Brooks and Stephanie Godfrey; and great-niece, Jacquelyn Marshall, her husband, John, and son, Thomas Hopkins. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Big Clear Creek Baptist Church with Pastors James Daily and Ron Miller officiating. Burial will follow in End of the Trail Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the church. It was the request of Mrs. Sheppard that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Big Clear Creek Baptist Church.
