Carl G. Scruggs, 84, of Nitro died Sept. 13, 1998, at home after a long illness.
He was retired from Save Supply Co., Charleston, was a construction carpenter, and was a self-employed part-time contractor. He was a member, senior deacon, treasurer and trustee of East Nitro United Baptist Church, and attended Bethany Baptist Church, St. Albans, and Bethlehem Baptist Church, Witcher.
Surviving: wife, Dorothy Ellis Scruggs of Nitro; stepdaughters, Nancy Dene of Abingdon, Va., Mary Lou Lewis of Winfield, Shirley Vaught of Nitro, Patricia Worstell of Cross Lanes; sister, Catherine Neff of Aiken, S.C.; 16 stepgrandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Nitro United Baptist Church with Phil Suiter officiating. Burial will be in Montgomery Memorial Park, London. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Nitro United Baptist Church. Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice Care Inc., 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.
