W. E. Scott, Ex-School Official, Dies at Age 73
MAXWELTON, Nov. 11 ? (Special) ? William Emmett Scott, 73, of Maxwelton, former superintendent of Greenbrier County schools, died last night in Greenbrier Valley Hospital at Ronceverte.
Cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage, which he suffered while attending a church dinner in Ronceverte last night.
A member of Clifton Presbyterian Church, he retired from public school work in the early 1940s after 50 years of service, 36 of which were spent as a teacher. He was county superintendent of schools for 12 years.
He had been a teacher in Huntington High School and at various times principal of high schools at Lewisburg, Frankford, Hillsboro, Richwood and Harrisville.
Scott taught from 1944 to 1948 at Greenbrier Military School after his retirement as county superintendent.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maude Burns Scott; one daughter, Mrs. Maurice Sawyer of Elkhart, Ind.; three sons, Sgt. George M. Scott of the State Police in Parkersburg, Maj. William E. Scott, Jr., of Albuquerque, N. M., and James F. Scott of Maxwelton.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Clifton Presbyterian Church at Maxwelton with Dr. J. P. Proffitt officiating. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery under the direction of Wallace and Wallace mortuary of Lewisburg. The body will be removed from the mortuary to the church one hour before the service.
