Reburial Rites Set For Soldier
LAYLAND, Sept. 20 - The body of Staff Sgt. Raymond L. Berry, who was shot down over Germany on March 24, 1945, is being returned home for reburial.
Berry was serving as a gunner with the Eighth Airforce when he was killed.
The body will arrive at Meadow Creek Saturday morning and will be removed to the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in East Rainelle.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Berry, of Layland; four sisters, Mrs. Mae Burns, of Layland; Mrs. Jessie Higginbotham, of Oak Hill; Mrs. Opal Adkins, of Kathryn and Mrs. Elsie Fleshman, of Danese; three brothers, Virgil and Frank, of Fire Creek and Lester, of Bellepoint.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Chestnut Knob Community Church in Layland Heights with Rev. L. M. Legg officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrah cemetery on Backus Mountain.
