Born March 23, 1922 at Esty, WV, he was a son of the late George and Lula Baldwin Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a water mechanic with the C&O Railroad for seven yaers, was retired after 20 years of service as a plumber at the Federal Correctional Institution for Women at Alderson, was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church at Alderson where he was a member of the Methodist Men of the Choir and had served on many church committees over the years. He was a member of tri-county Memorial VFW Post 6723 Alderson. He was a World War II US Army veteran, having served during the Battle of the Bulge, was a staff sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was proceded in death by brothers, James, Lacy and Henry Lewis, and a sister, Lula Lewis. Survivors include his wife, Samuella Shawver Lewis of Alderson; sons, Craig H. Lewis of Fort Spring and Gary R. Lewis and Mark A. Lewis, both of Alderson; daughters, Drema G. Lewis of Fairlea, Dinah L. King, of Marietta, GA and Lisa A. Mr. [Alvaro Rupert] McClung was born January 21, 1886, at Rupert, Greenbrier County, West Virginia, and is a son of Cyrus Rupert and Rebecca (Crane) McClung. He is a member of a pioneer family of Greenbrier County, who established their home here at an early day, clearing and cultivating land, spending a goodly part of their time hunting, and gradually developing substantial homesteads. Cyrus R. McClung was born and reared in Greenbrier County, where he received a country school education and in young manhood was engaged in teaching in the rural districts. He was a private in a West Virginia infantry regiment during the war between the states, in which he saw service in a number of major engagements, and afterward engaged in farming and carried on coal operation on his farm on Big Sewell Mountain for the benefit of the farmers of that community. He died in 1897 and was buried at old Amwell Cemetery at Rupert. He married Rebecca Crane, who was also born and reared in Greenbrier County, where she was given a public school education. She was always active in the Baptist Church, in the faith of which she died in 1886, and was laid to rest in the Amwell Cemetery. She and her husband were the parents of nine children: P. W., Ada, Ida, A. B., W. A., Eulalia, Pearl, and an infant who died at birth and Alvaro R. He was born in Greenbrier county, March 4, 1804, and came to Braxton county in 1824 (the county then included in Nicholas), and commenced farming and clearing land. May 4, 1826, in Nicholas county, John Morrison married Mary Lough, who was born in Pendleton county, (then) Virginia, January 7, 1807. They had six children: Maria J., born April 17, 1827, who lives in Braxton county; William B., born and died in 1829; James M. C., deceased, was born September 13, 1830; Morgan H., December 2, 1832, lives in Kansas; Margaret E., May 12, 1836, lives in Lewis county, this State; George H., October 10, 1838, lives in Kansas. The record of these children is incomplete, because the family record was burned as follows: When the civil war was inaugurated, Mr. Morrison had a fine farm of 300 acres, 150 under cultivation. The "Moccasin Rangers" came to his farm burned his house and all its contents to the ground, leaving not even one bed to sleep on, and drove off his cattle and horses. In the spring of 1862 he enlisted in Company F, 10th Virginia Infantry, and served till the close of the war. June 27, 1865, he was a second time married, Diana Bainbridge becoming his wife. She was born January 19, 1829, in Rockingham county, Virginia. For more than fifty years, John Morrison has been an active and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, always ready to promote the interests of the church. He filled the office of constable ten years, was four years deputy sheriff, and then was elected sheriff for two terms of two years each. He has been one term justice of the peace. Item 4th, I bequeath to my daughter Mrs. Sarah Richmond one hundred dollars to be paid to her by my administrator, and this is all that I desire that she shall have out of my estate. Item 5th, I bequeath to my daughter Mrs. Mary Miller, Ten dollars, this with one hundred dollars that I have given her since the death of my husband, is all that I desire she shall have out of my estate. Item 6th, I bequeath to my daughter Mrs. Ruth Stickler Ten dollars, to be paid to her by my Administrator and this is all that I desire she shall have out of my estate. Item 7th, I bequeath all the remainder of my estate, of every nature or kind whatever, after paying my honest debts and funeral expenses, to my son Harrison Duquasie, and my daughter Elizabeth Duquasie and desire that my Administrator shall have the same properly appraised and the same, or the proceeds thereof equally divided between said Harrison Duquasie and Elizabeth Duquasie. Item 8th, I desire that after my death, my daughter Ruth Stickler, shall take to her house my daughter Elizabeth Duquasie and keep her, furnishing her all the necessary comforts of life, including food, clothing &c. And I further desire that the proper authorities appoint one or more trustees to take charge of all that portion of my estate that my daughter Elizabeth Duquasie shall fall heir to, and that said Elizabeth Duquasie's share of my said estate, shall be used in defraying the expense of her maintenance.
