Obituaries

Lewis Cunningham, age 58, of Marlinton, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Born May 1, 1956, at Lorain, Ohio, he was a son of Marion Cunningham, of Mentor, Ohio, and the late Betty Bunnell Cunningham.

Lewis was in security for a retail drug store. He attended Mt. Zion Church.

In addition to father, he is survived by his wife, Rose M. Sharp Cunningham; a daughter, Annette M. Cunningham, of Willoughby, Ohio; a son, Jonathan V. Cunningham, and wife, Jennifer, of Wickliffe, Ohio; sisters, Willa Workman, and husband, Cletus, of Eastlake, Ohio, Clara Roth, and husband, Dave, of Chardon, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Hunter and Tinka.

Funeral service was December 28 at VanReenen Funeral Home with Dave Plank officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Marlinton.

Luster Clark McCutcheon, III, age 59, of Solomon's Island, Maryland, and formerly of Gaithersburg, Maryland, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002.

Born in Marlinton, he was the son of Elizabeth Oliver McCutcheon and the late Luster Clark McCutcheon, Jr.

He moved to Gaithersburg in 1951. He graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1961 and attended West Virginia University.

After serving active duty for the U.S. Army, he worked briefly for the U.S. Post Office before beginning an active career with Gaithersburg Washington Grove Fire Department. He ended his 17-year career as chief administrative officer in 1982. While working for the fire department he was an Erie Insurance Agent, owning and operating the McCutcheon Insurance Company until his death.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Carol McCutcheon; two children, Darrin McCutcheon and Laurie Mudd; two stepchildren, Laura Best and J.D. Edwards; a brother, James McCutcheon,; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held December 6 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg.

Lucille Marie McCloud Withers, age 79, of Marlinton, died Saturday, January 12, 2012, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Born October 8, 1933, at Marlinton, she was a daughter of the late John Matthew and Agnes Lenore Sharp McCloud.

Lucille was a retired teacher's aide and a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Wendell Withers; a son, Brent Withers; sisters, Carole Tyree and Mildred Jean McCloud; and a brother, James McCloud.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Withers, of Morgantown; sons, Ivan Withers, Jr., and Brett Withers, both of Marlinton, and Matthew Withers, of Ellis-ton, Virginia; sisters, Lenore Donivan, of Roseville, California, Junie Cutright, of Elyria, Ohio, Nancy Baldwin, of Long Beach, California, and Sharon Mullens, of Marlinton; brothers, Warren McCloud, of Elyria, Ohio, and Harry McCloud, of Marlinton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was January 15 at VanReenen Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Mann officiating. Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Jane Kelley Withers

Jane Kelley Withers, age 78, of Marlinton, died Monday, March 14, 1994, in Pocahontas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Withers was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the Marlinton Presbyterian Church.

The daughter of the late Clete and Bessie Curry Kelley, she was born May 3, 1915, near Huntersville.

Three brothers, Ernest, Ward and Albert Kelley, and a sister, Stella McLaughlin, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Shannon Eugene Withers; a son, Jerry Withers, of Dale City, Virginia; a daughter, Sue Schultz, of Richmond, Virginia, five grandchildren, Kristie Yeager Haskett, of Woodbridge, Virginia, William Shannon Withers, of Lynchburg, Virginia, Jennifer Leigh Lauer, of Covington, Kentucky, Charlene Ruth Withers, of Dale City, Virginia, and Jane Amelia Schultz, of Richmond, Virginia; and a brother, Glen Kelley, of Huntersville.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at VanReenen Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Newkirk, with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Elizabeth "Libby" Oliver McCutcheon, age 89, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, died December 11, 2002.

She had been a resident of Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg since June of 1996. She was known as Libby and was a kindergarten teacher to many.

Born March 20, 1913, at Green Bank, she was the daughter of James W. and Annie Gum Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Leone O. Harper and Lucille O. Moomau, and brother, Lake R. Oliver. Her husband, Luster Clark McCutcheon, II, died in March, 1999. Her son, Luster Clark McCutcheon, III, known as "L.C.", died in an accident two weeks ago, on November 25, 2002.

Surviving are her son, James O. McCutcheon, of Gaithersburg; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Libby McCutcheon was a school teacher for 39 years. The first 17 years were in Pocahontas County. From 1951 until her retirement in 1973 she taught kindergarten in Gaithersburg Elementary School.

She was married to Clark McCutcheon for 58 years. She and her husband helped to establish the Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church in 1964. The McCutcheons moved to Gaithersburg in 1951 and stayed there uniti 1982 when they moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida. They returned to Montgomery County in 1996, living at Asbury Methodist Village.

Mrs. McCutcheon was a Past Matron of Cass Chapter #124 Order of the Eastern Star in Cass.

A memorial service was held Tuesday morning at the Guild Memorial Chapel at Asbury Methodist Villege, Gaithersburg.

DEATHS

Shannon E. Withers

Shannon Eugene Withers, age 84, of Marlinton, died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Withers was a retired tanner, a leather roller for International Shoe Company, and a Presbyterian. He served in the United States Army in World War II.

The son of the late Isaac and Elsie Hayslett Withers, he was born in Marlinton September 2, 1916.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Kelley Withers; a brothers, James Withers; four sisters, Arlene Camper, Ruth Dunbrack, Maxine Withers, and Viola Withers; and his parents.

Surviving him are a daughters, Sue Withers Schultz, of Marlinton; a son, Jerry R. Withers, of Dale City, Virginia; a sister, Evelyn Withers, and a brother, Ivan W. Withers, Sr., both of Marlinton; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon at Mountain View Cemetery by the Rev. Randy Benson.

William Randall Neff, 56, of 2119 Grant St., died Thursday in Scioto Memorial Hospital.

A native of Rainelle, W.Va., he was a self employed contractor, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Christ's Community Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Leona Pennywill Neff; a stepson, William D. Smith of Chicago, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. James Workman, 1504 Summitt St.; two half brothers, John Neff, 2407 Mabert Rd., and Andy Neff of Lucasville; two half sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Loper of Sciotodale and Mrs. Katherine Davis of Tampa, Fla., and five grandchildren.

Services are to be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at Emrick Scott Funeral Home with Scott Rawlings, minister, officiating. Interment is to be in Memorial Burial Park.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Laviro Neff, 61, carpenter, of Sciotoville route 2, died at 3:15 a.m. today at Portsmouth General hospital after an illness of the last four months of complications.

He was born Aug. 11, 1880, at Rainelle, W. Va., a son of Addison and Virginia Hickman Neff. He lived in that vicinity until 1920 when he came to Scioto county. He was a member of Cedar Street Christian church at New Boston. On April 3, 1912, he married Lillian Shawver.

Surviving are his wife and these children: Andrew Neff of Lucasville, John W. Neff of Portsmouth, William R. Neff at home, Mrs. Elizabeth Loper of Sciotoville route 2 and Mrs. Katherine Fligor of Chesapeake.

He also leaves these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Lucy Sanford, R.A., C.A., Otto and J. F. Neff of Rainelle, S. L. Neff of Brighton, Colo., Mrs. Naomi Reynolds of Clendening, W. Va., and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Emerick's funeral home, with Rev. William Sheppard officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. The body is at the residence and will be returned to the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Her husband died March 6, 1942. Survivors include a son, William R. of Camp Bennett; stepsons, Andrew T. of Lucasville, John W. of Portsmouth; stepdaughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Loper of Sciotoville Rt. 2, Mrs. Katherine Fligor of Chesapeake; a brother, Lee Shawver of Corliss, W. Hunter Infant Taken By Death

KEIFFER (RNS) - Donna Gay Hunter, four-month-old daughter of Glenn R. and Dorothy Sizemore Hunter, Keiffer, was found dead in bed, Saturday morning. Cause of death has not been determined.

Surviving in addition to the parents are a sister, Terry Faye, and a brother, Michael Ray, both at home; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hunter, Keiffer; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. David Baldwin, Crawley; the maternal grandfather, Samuel Sizemore, Trout; the maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Lewis, Trout; the paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Mae Crookshanks, and the paternal great-grandfather, Jennings Hunter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church, Keiffer, by the Rev. Joe E. Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at the Chapel of the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home and will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Born June 30, 1916, at Bellewood, he was a son of the late Frank and Ida Gillispie Sanford.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Rainelle.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace Gwinn Sanford; a daughter, Mrs. Brenda Sears, Crozet, Va.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Juanita Smith, Hopewell, Va.; two brothers, Elmer, Rainelle and Everet, Lewisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Eunice Kenney and Mrs. Dicie Simms, both of Rainelle and three grandchildren.

Burial will be in the End-of-the-Trail Cemetery at Clintonville.

Sanford died Saturday morning after suffering a heart attack.

Bridal Shower Honors Local Girl To Be Married Today

The Civic Room of the Bank of Raleigh was the scene Thursday for a bridal shower honoring Miss Irma McGuire.

Miss McGuire will be married today to Guy Amato of 513 Maxwell Hill Road. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. McGuire, Harper Road and her fiance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Amato, Pemberton.

Hostesses for the affair were Mrs. E. E. Kenney, Mrs. D. C. Triggs and Mrs. J. P. Lannan.

The gift table was covered with a white linen cloth and centered with an arrangement of red roses and white chrysanthemums with greenery. The serving tables were covered with white linen cloths and featured pink tapers in crystal holders with china and silver appointments.

The body is at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Jacob N. Tincher Has Fatal Attack

RAINELLE (RNS) ? Jacob Norman Tincher, 81, died in a Bluefield hospital Friday morning. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Little Sewell Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Born at Rainelle Nov. 11, 1881, he was a son of the late Cooper and Adeline Smith Tincher.

His wife, Hettie Ann Tincher, preceded him in death.

Survivors include five sons, B. L., R. D., Clyde, Junior, all of Rainelle, and Gordon of Reedsville, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Robert McGuire of Baltimore, Md.; a foster son, Ernest Osborne of Smoot; two brothers, Simon of Rainelle and Festus Tincher of Garten; a sister, Mrs. Ora Simms of Raleigh; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Little Sewell Baptist Church at Craig with the Rev. E. W. Parks and Rev. G. C. Music in charge. Burial will be in the Tincher Cemetery at Craig.

The body will remain at Nickell Funeral Home in East Rainelle and will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Thomas Andrew McGuire, 61, of 106 Reservation St., died Friday at 8 a.m. in Lanham, Md., at the home of his son, Jimmy McGuire.

He was born at Royal, the son of William and Elizabeth McGuire, in 1901.

He has been employed by Long Airdox since 1929.

Survivors include his wife, Susie; one son, Jimmy; three daughters, Mrs. Wilbur C. (June) Cook and Mrs. Guy (Irma Lee) Amato both of Beckley, and Mrs. J. D. (Corrine) Scott of Martinsburg, and four grandchildren.

The body will arrive at the Melton Mortuary today at which time funeral arrangements will be completed.

A bulldozer operator, he was a member of the Little Creek Baptist Church at Rainelle.

Born at Rainelle, May 23, 1935, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Kenney, Rainelle.

Also surviving are his wife, Mrs. Una White Kenney, Rainelle; three brothers, Benny, Bernard and Stewart, all of Rainelle; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Raines, South Charleston and Mrs. Shelton Smith, Rainelle.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p. m. Monday in the Little Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. John Knotts and the Rev. Joe E. Smith in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from the Nickell Funeral Home in East Rainelle to the church one hour before the service. (RNS)

Born in Rainelle, Aug. 16, 1899, he was a son of the late Summers and Mary Osborne Kenney.

He was a member of the Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church, a retired C&O railway engineer and a member of the Brotherhood of Local Firemen and Engineers.

Surviving are his wife, Eunice Kenney; two daughters, Mrs. Charles R. Raines, Rainelle, and Mrs. Shelton Smith, Grassy Meadows; three sons, Bennie, Rainelle, Mike, Radford, Va., and Stewart, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Rena Meadows, Richmond, Va., Mrs. Nannie Tincher, Mrs. Verdie Simms, and Mrs. Ida Simms, all of Rainelle; three brothers, Lincoln, Lewisburg, Edgar and Sam, both of Rainelle; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Little Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Smith and James Simms officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a mechanic and a member of the East Rainelle Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; his parents, McKinley Osborne of Rainelle and Mrs. Maggie Osborne of Spencer; five sons, Jerry of Covington, Va., and Donald, Ronald, Carl and Jeffery, all at home, and two brothers, Robert of Belva and Delvin of Rainelle.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Don Smathers Funeral Chapel in East Rainelle with Rev. Earl Lewis in charge. Burial will be in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

He was a disabled coal miner, a member of the Little Sewell Baptist Church and a World War II Veteran.

Born at Craig, Nov. 9, 1921, he was a son of Homer and Nora Osborne Giilespie.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jean of Lorain, Ohio; two sons, David and Gary, both of Lorain; seven sisters, Mrs. Zelda Turner of Illinois, Mrs. Lloyd Tincher of Rainelle, Mrs. Lawrence Aldridge of Hilton
Village, Mrs. Louis R. Pillow of Roanoke, Va., Mrs. James Kincaid of Perrysburg, Ohio, Mrs. Eugene Highlander of Tams and Mrs. Hobert Osborne of Gauley Bridge, and three brothers, Clifford of Ellensburg,
Wash., Robert H. of Piney View and Donald of Milburn, Ohio.

James Lewis Milam, 62, of Wyco, was dead on arrival Saturday morning at a Mullens hospital after a short illness.

Born Jan. 7, 1915, he was a son of the late Lewis and Millie Grose Milam.

Mr. Milam had lived at Wyco for 20 years, was a retired coal miner and a member of the Original Church of God at Tams.

Surving are his wife, Zola Jane Milam; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Polk, Chicago, Ill.; five stepdaughters, Mrs. Betty Copeland and Mrs. Mary Jane Carr, both of Rainelle, Mrs. Deanna Cecil, Wyco, Mrs. Ann Moose, Statesville, N. Mrs. Christian died Monday in a local nursing home following an extended illness. Her husband, William, preceded her in death in 1954.

Ray Tuckwiller Has Fatal Attack

MCROSS (RNS) - A Greenbrier County man died Saturday morning in a truck accident near Richwood.

State police said Ray C. Tuckwiller, 54, of McRoss, a truck driver for the Johnson Trucking Co., died of an apparent heart attack while driving a truck in the Richwood area Saturday. Police said the truck plunged over an embankment.

He was a member of the McRoss Baptist Church, Ruritan Club of Clintonville and was a veteran of World War II.

Born Nov. 7, 1919, at Clintonville, he was a son of the late David and Gertrude Carr Tuckwiller.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; three daughters, Mrs. Jesse Copen III of Franklin, Va., and Dreama Gayle and Linda Gay, both at home; one son, Eugene, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Bryant, Mrs. Mable Legg and Mrs. Lizzie Robinson, all of Clintonville, and one brother, Lake of Boone, N. C.

Born at Rainelle, March 4, 1881, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nancy Osborne Sims.

CRAWLEY (RNS) ? James Clifford Pittsenbarger, 56, was pronounced dead on arrival at a Grundy, Va., hospital Sunday night. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

Born April 25, 1913, at Tincher, he was a son of the late James and Ada Bowyer Pittsenbarger.

He was a member of the Crawley Missionary Baptist Church and Rainelle Lodge 100, Knights of Pythias.

Pittsenbarger was a shovel operator for the Burn Rite Coal Co.

Survivors include his wife, Cleo; a daughter, Miss Mary Rae Pittsenbarger of Roanoke, Va.; a son, Marvin of Hot Springs, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Enola Smith of Alexandria, Va., and one grandchild.

Ettore Ivaldi Dies At 80

Ettore Ivaldi, 80, of 214 Cherry Ave. died in a local hospital Tuesday at 7:40 a.m. after a long illness.

Ivaldi was born in Asti, Italy, July 6, 1895, a son of the late Lodovico and Maria Corning Ivaldi. He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America, District 29, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Beckley Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Mae Britt Ivaldi; two step-sons, Curtis G. Broughman, address unknown, and James E. Broughman of Nitro; a step-daughter, Mrs. Levinida M. Smith of Melvindale, Mich.; seven step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Smith, 53, died in his Rainelle home at 9 p.m. Sunday after an 11-month illness.

He was employed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway as a conductor and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Lodge. He had been employed by the C&O for the past 36 years.

Born at Springdale, Nov. 28, 1905, Smith was a son of the late Joseph Harvey and Jane Sims Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lena Callison Smith, three brothers, the Rev. Joe E. Smith of Hines, and George and Clarence, both of Rainelle; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Lawson of McArthur; three sons, Keith and Bill, both of Rainelle, and Don at home; and three grandchildren.

J. M. Sims, 79, Taken by Death

SPRINGDALE (RNS) - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday for Joseph Marian Sims, 79, Springdale, who died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Rites will be held at the Springdale Baptist Church with the Rev. Hobart Quesenberry and the Rev. Harold Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow in the Lowry Cemetery, Springdale.

He was a retired farmer, a member of the Springdale Baptist Church, and was the son of Charles A. and Nancy Osborne Sims.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Daisy Lowry Sims; one brother, John A., Rainelle; two sisters, Mrs. Hettie Tincher, Rainelle; Mrs. Leona Sanford, Meadow Bridge; two sons, Berley L. and Joseph Ray, Springdale; one daughter, Mrs. Georgia Hilda Sanford, Rainelle; 14 grandchildren, and 10 grandchildren.

GUY AMATO, 57, 513 Maxwell Hill Road, Democrat candidate for councilman-at-large; employed as an agent for Home Insurance, graduate of Woodrow Wilson High school and West Virginia University; veteran of World War II having served with the United States Army Air Corps; born March 10, 1917 at Winding Gulf; is the chairman of the Beckley Democratic Executive Committee; was campaign chairman for the Democrats in the city election in 1971; was chairman of the city beautification committee and the cleanup campaign in 1961; served on the planning and zoning commission; he and his wife, Irma, have one son, Samuel Thomas.

J. E. Kelly, 76, Dies; Rites Set Saturday

HUGHART - Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday for John Edwards Kelly, 76, of Hughart, who died at his home early Thursday.

Rites will be held in the Sinking Creek Baptist Church at Hughart, with the Rev. Joe Smith and the Rev. Hobart Quesenberry officiating. Burial will follow in the End of the Trail Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie Remley Kelly, one son, Mack of Clintonville; three daughters, Mrs. Peachie Remley of Rupert; Mrs. Winona Henson of Clintonville and Mrs. Bessie Bennett of Livermore, Calif.; one brother, Virgil of Muddy Creek Mountain and two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Williams of Ronceverte and Mrs. Flossie Skaggs of Hughart.

Ex-Beckleyan's Rites Conducted

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Norfolk, Va., for David Rollyson, 53, formerly of Beckley.

ROLLYSON died about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after suffering a heart attack suffered while at work for the Norfolk and Western Railway Co. in Norfolk.

The funeral was held in the Chapel of the Graham Funeral Home in Norfolk with burial in the cemetery of Mrs. Rollysons family.

His mother, Mrs. Minnie Roliyson, his sister, Mrs. Maude Torreo, both of Bibb Ave., four brothers, Jack Rollyson, and O'Dell Rollyson, both of Beckley; John Rollyson, and Ilow Rollyson, both of Detroit, Mich. attended the funeral.

SURVIVORS in addition to his mother, his sister and brothers, include another sister, Miss Orreta
Rollyson, Beckley; another brother Jesse Rollyson, formerly of Beckley; his wife, Agnes Rollyson, Norfolk; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Marjorie Faris, Cleveland, Ohio; a stepson, Roy H. McDaniel, Norfolk, and four step-grandchildren.

He was born in Beckley April 19, 1906, and moved to Norfolk about 20 years ago after spending
several years in New York City.
