MARVIN ALDERSON MCCLUNG, 64, of Mount Lookout, Nicholas County, died Wednesday in Summersville Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Quinnimont. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Mount Lookout, the American Legion and VFW. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired employee of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington. He was a farmer. Surviving: wife, Anna Lee Kincaid McClung; daughters, Anndra Kay Dempsey of Mount Lookout; sons, Marvin A. II of Ansted, Mark Richard of Mount Vernon, Ohio; brothers, Mason of Oakland, Md., Paul of Andalusia, Ala., Walter and Theodore, both of Mount Lookout; sisters, Russie Skaggs of Ansted, Lottie Shelton of Martinsville, Va., Dollie McClung and Jessie Deitz, both of Mount Lookout; five grandchildren Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Navy Gives Army Medal to Logan Marine Officer

ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 13 - (AP) - A West Virginia Marine who served in Korea has received the Bronze Star, awarded by the Army and presented by the Navy.

The naval academy announced today 1st Lt. Nye G. Rodes of Logan, W. Va., was decorated for aggressiveness and bravery as provost marshal of the First Provisional Marine Brigade in Korea last Summer.

The medal was awarded under an Army citation by Lt. Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway, now supreme Allied commander in the Far East. Vice Adm. Harry W. Hill, academy superintendant, pinned it on the Marine lieutenant yesterday.

Rodes, son of Mrs. Maye P. Rodes of 407-1/2 Stratton St., Logan, W.Va., is on duty with the academy executive department. He was graduated from Annapolis in 1946.

Mrs. Catherine Florence Shawver, 84, of Glasgow, died after a heart attack yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. R. Hardy. Mrs. Hardy is the wife of Glasgow's mayor.

Mrs. Shawver was the wife of Dr. L. B. Shawver, who for 46 years was the resident physician in that area. He died in 1946.

Surviving besides Mrs. Hardy are two other daughters. Mrs. B. H. Burks of Hinton and Mrs. E. W. Grafton of Charleston; four sons, Randall E. of Dunbar, Hobart E. of San Francisco, W. Miss Ellen Axson Rodes Weds Florian F. Ceperley

Members of the families and a few intimate friends were present for the wedding of Miss Ellen Axson Rodes and Mr. Florian F. Ceperley, which took place yesterday morning at the First Presbyterian church.

Nuptial Music Played

Rev. Wallace M. Alston, pastor of the church, read the ceremony in a setting of gladioli and other spring flowers, lighted by tapers in standing candelabra. Mrs. Gladys T. Hover, organist, played "Ave Maria," by Schubert, and Saint-Saens' "Meditation" from "Thais" before the service. The traditional wedding
music was used for the processional and recessional.

The bride wore a costume suit of powder blue wool with a white organdy blouse and a brown turban trimmed with veiling. Brown accessories and a corsage of pink camellias completed her ensemble.

Her only attendant, Miss Mary Shears, wore a two piece yellow wool suit, a matching felt turban and brown accessories. Her flowers were Johanna Hill roses and cornflowers in a shoulder bouquet.

Mr. John Oliver of Morgantown was best man. Ushers were Messrs. Willis Brondyke and Paul Weber.

The couple left immediately after the ceremony for New York City and will visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence V. Ceperley in Oneonta, N. Y., before returning home. They will reside at 1202 Kanawha
parkway.

Mrs. Ceperley is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Rodes of Summers county and is a sister of Mrs. Edward Donnally of Oakwood road. She was graduated in home economics from Berea college in Kentucky and is secretary to Mr. Hugh Burdette, manager of Godfrey L. Cabot, Inc.

Mr. Ceperley received a degree from Cornell university, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity and Tau Beta Pi, honorary engineering fraternity. He is an engineer at the duPont plant at Belle.

EAST RAINELLE - Oattie Elmer Jones, formerly chief of police in East Rainelle, died Sunday in Charleston Memorial Hospital after a four month illness.

Mr. Jones, 70, was a retired coal operator and member of the East Rainelle Elks Club.

Surviving are his widow, Ora; three brothers, J. N. of East Rainelle, Olin O. and Derry, both of Charleston; three half-brothers, Elden, Hugh and Hayward, all of Charleston.

Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in East Rainelle by the Rev. Henry O. Loving and the Rev. P.E. Orndorff. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Mrs. Irene Shawver Is Dead in Richwood

RICHWOOD, Sept. 14 - A 78-year old childless woman, who had adopted five children and helped
rear eight others, died in a hospital here today. She was Mrs. Irene McClung Shawver of Clintonville, widow of the late Alfred M. Shawver.

The adopted children, all of whom survive, are Mrs. Mary Hallex of Washington, Mrs. Robert Bivens of
Meadow Bluff, Miss Ruth Shawver of San Francisco, Mr. Franklin Ferrell of Morgantown and Cecil
Flack at home. Surviving also was a brother, W. K. McClung of San Francisco.

Funeral sevices will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the home. Rev. George Lambert and Rev. Ray Perkins officiating. Burial will be at the End of the Trail cemetery in Clintonville under the direction of Wallace and Wallace mortuary.

Carl G. Corns, 78, of Hobe Sound passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at his home. Born in Dobra, W.Va., he had been a resident of Hobe Sound for the past 23 years. He moved to the area from St. Albans. Prior to retirement, he was purchasing director for Union Carbide in South Charleston for 32 years. He was also employed with FPL in Indiantown, Fla., for three years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Hobe Sound and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus. His daughter, Debbie Kane predeceased him in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Fran Corns of Hobe Sound, Fla.; two sons, Dick Corns and his wife, Sylvia of South Charleston, and Eddie Corns and his wife, Kathy of Winter Springs, Fla.; his sisters, Theda Chafin of Dunbar and four grandchildren, Brian and Todd Corns, Jamie and Jennifer Corns. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Hobe Sound. In lieu of other remembrances, donations may be made to St. Christopher Catholic Church, 12001 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, Fla. 33455. Arrangements are under the direction of Young & Prill Funeral Home, Stuart.
