She was a lifelong resident of Corliss, and a member of the Minnie Bell Baptist Church at Corliss. Surviving: sons, Jack of Montgomery, Harold of Hilton Village; sister, Mrs. Bessie McGraw of Ansted; brothers, John Bragg of Charleston, Bill and Frank Bragg of Ansted. Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Minnie Bell Baptist Church with the Rev. Guy Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in the Shawver Cemetery, Corliss. Glenna Walkup Rollins, 81, of Kanawha City died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in CAMC, Memorial Division, after a short illness. She retired from Bob Phillips Enterprises, Charleston, and was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Kanawha City. She was a 60-year resident of Charleston. Surviving: daughters, Susan Rollins Wykle of Rose Valley, Pa., Rebecca Rollins Wright of Houston, Texas; sister, Mary Lee Gendelman of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Bill and John Walkup of Meadow Bridge; four grandchildren. Graveside service was to be 1 p.m. today at Patton Cemetery, Meadow Bridge. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home. ILLNESS FATAL TO DR. WALKUP

Mt. Hope Physician Dies at Montgomery

MT. HOPE. Aug. 20 (Special. - Dr. H. A. Walkup, 50, widely known physician, died at a Montgomery hospital today, following a long illness.

Dr. Walkup was admitted to the hospital several years ago. Active in civil affairs prior to his illness, he was at one time a member of the Fayette County Democratic Executive committee, and the city council of Mt. Hope. He was a member of the Moose lodge.

Surviving are the widow and two sons, Homer A. Walkup, Jr., who graduated in law at West Virginia university this spring, and Harry Walkup, who is now a student at that institution.

Funeral arrangements are not completed but probably will be held Sunday here.

Marriage Announced

Mr. and Mrs. William Floyd Shawver, of Bradford street, announce the marriage of their daughter, Kathleen, to Mr. Royce G. Monaghan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Monaghan, of Mabank,Tex., which took place Thursday, January 9, at the First Presbyterian church, Ashland, Ky. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Samuel R. Curry.

Mrs. Monaghan is a popular member in the social set and has been actively associated with church work in connection with the First M.E. church, South, of which she was superintendent of the primary department. She received her education at Charleston high school, Maryland college for women, and Ohio State university. She was a senior in the university at the time of her marriage.

Mr. Monaghan is a graduate of Terrell college, Terrell, Tex. He is a member of the Theta Kappa Omega fraternity, and was prominent in sports. He is now associated with the Standard Oil company in the position of chemist, at Beaumont, Tex.

Immediately following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Monaghan returned to Charleston, leaving soon for Beaumont, where they will reside. They are now at home in 303 Washington boulevard, Beaumont.

Miss Eugenia McCutcheon, 65, of 1620 McClung St., formerly of Nicholas County, a retired supervisor for the West Virginia Department of Welfare, died Saturday in St. Frances Hospital after a long illness.

A former Nicholas County school teacher, she was a graduate of Marshall University and attended American University in Washington, D.C. Miss McCutcheon was a member of the Richwood Presbyterian Church.

Surviving: several nieces and nephews.

Service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in White Funeral Home, Summersville, with the Rev. Robert D. Burch officiating. Burial will be in Walker Memorial Park. Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m.

She was a former bookkeeper/secretary or Fairlea Farm Equipment, WRON radio station and Cheuvront's Supply and was a retired radio operator from the state Department of Highways. RONCEVERTE (Special) - Services for Virgil V. Kelly, 65, were held today at Hughart, with burial in End of the Trail Cemetery near Clintonville.

Mr. Kelly, a retired farmer, died Sunday in Ocala, Fla., of a heart attack. A former resident of a farm on Muddy Creek mountain near Lewisburg, Greenbrier county, he was stricken soon after moving to Florida.

He was born at Hughart and until he moved to FLorida had spent his entire life in Greenbrier county.

Surviving are his widow, Josie; three daughters, Mrs. Mada Mahone of Williamsburg, Va., Mrs. Deborah White of Glen Rock, Pa., and Mrs. Beatrice Dowdy of Sinks Grove; two sons, Calvin of Williamsburg and Paul of Ronceverte; two sisters, Mrs. Flossie Skaggs of Hughart and Mrs. Rachel Williams of Ronceverte; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rainelle Man Takes Life With Shotgun

RAINELLE - A 70-year-old Greenbrier County man died of a self-inflicted wound, state police said here today.

The body of Charles Claude Martin, a retired farmer, was found yesterday by a nephew in an abandoned house across the street from his home at Vale.

Police said he died of a shotgun wound of the chest.

He is survived by his wife, Ora.

Service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Don Smathers Funeral home here, with the Rev. Roy B. Kessler, officiating.

Burial will be in the Frantz Cemetery at Dawson. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.

EAST RAINELLE (Special) - Mrs. Bertha Mae Crane, 70, of this Greenbrier county town, died late Monday at Ronceverte after a long illness.

The Rev. Joe E. Brown and the Rev. P. E. Orndorff will conduct funeral services tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Orient Hill Baptist church near here, and burial will be in the church cemetery with Nickell mortuary in charge.

The body is at the mortuary and will be taken to the residence of a son, Granville W. Crane here tomorrow at 4 p.m. and to the church shortly before the service.

Survivors: Two other sons, Noel of Marmet and Orville of East Rainelle; three daughters, Mrs. Noka Bowyers of McRoss, Mrs. Wilma Farley of Rainelle and Mrs. Hazel Meadows of Marmet; a brother, John Nutter of Erie, Pa., six sisters, Mrs. Fannie Williams of Rupert, Mrs. Pearl McClung and Mrs. Elsie O'Dell of Quinwood, Mrs. June Sutterfield, Mrs. Laura Roberts and Mrs. Ethel Cavenor of Modesta, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

MOUNT LOOKOUT - Doris E. Halstead, 78, of Mount Lookout, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, in the King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was the daughter of the late Aldine and Tabitha "Bithy" Patton McClung and was born at Mount Lookout Jan. 3, 1925. She was a retired secretary from Seneca Mental Health Services in Summersville, W.Va., and a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at Mount Lookout.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fleming C. Halstead in 1975; one daughter, Corky Halstead; and great-grandson, Noah Sparks.

Surviving: son, Kenneth Halstead of Huntington, W.Va.; daughter, Letha Sparks of Ashland, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Lexa, Craig, and Wesley Halstead, Jacob, Cindy, Matt, and Larry Sparks.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at Mount Lookout with Pastor Mark Secrist officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Burns, Early Greenbrier Settler, Claimed

LEWISBURG ? Amanda Sharp Burns, 88, of Lewisburg, died after a two-week illness at Greenbrier Valley Hospital, Ronceverte, on Monday. She was the daugher of the late Samuel M. and Eliza Moore Hepler of Meadow Bluff. Mrs. Burns was born July 6, 1869, at Goshen, Va., and came to West Virginia in 1877, being one of the early settlers in Greenbrier County.

Her husband was Dr. Joseph Sharp of Frankford who died in 1899. They were the parents of he late Mrs. A. M. Rathbone (Billie) of New York City and Mrs. Ernest W. Blake (Myrtle) of Lewisburg. Stepchildren survivng from her second marriage to the late J. Matt Burns, of Crawley, are L. G. Burns of Crawley; Mrs. W. E. Scott of Maxwelton; and the late Leviga and Lewis Burns; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Burns lived at 319 North Jefferson St. and was a member of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, bein active in Circle No. 3.

Services will be held at the Old Stone Church, Lewisburg, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial in the family plot at Rosewood Cemetery.

Stephen Morris Roby, 55, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, at St. Vincent's Hospital following an extended illness.

He was the son of the late Averill Morris Roby and Lee Ana McCutcheon Jarrett. His grandparents were the late Dee and Ruby Roby and the late Bernard and Beck McCutcheon.

Stephen is survived by his stepfather, Dr. Homer Jarrett; sister, Linda Roby Short, and niece, Lynn Meadows, all of Narrows, Va.; niece, Dee Ann Acord of Pembroke, Va.; and Aunt Martha McCutcheon Perilli of Summersville.

Stephen was born July 2, 1949, in Richwood. He graduated from Charleston High School, attended Marshall University and held a B.A. degree from Morris Harvey College. He served in the U.S. Army with the Military Police. He was currently employed with JP Morgan Chase, Jacksonville, as a mortgage underwriter.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Walker Memorial Park, Summersville.

Earl Ray Biggers, 60-year-old professional engineer, died unexpectedly yesterday evening at his 1647 Clay Ave., home. Mr. Biggers was with the West Virginia Engineering Co. here since 1940. A native of Fayette County, he was a graduate of Bliss Engineering School of Washington, D.C. He held membership in the Winona Baptist Church, the Longdale Lodge AF&AM No. 14 of Lookout, Scottish Rite Bodies, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple and Professional Engineers of West Virginia. Surviving are his wife, Madge Shawver Biggers; his mother, Mrs. Mollie Dillon Biggers of Winona; and one sister, Mrs. Garnet Biggers Huddle of Beckley. The body is at Cunningham Funeral Home.

Death Bring Long-Separated Couple Together

EAST RAINELLE (AP) - A man and wife who had lived apart for the past 20 years were together again today - in death - at a mortuary here, attendants said.

Mrs. Mary Ridgeway, 70, died yesterday at 2 a.m. in a Ronceverte hospital. Lemuel Ridgeway, her 73-year-old husband from whom she had been separated died four hours later in East Rainelle.

Mrs. Ridgeway was found unconscious on the floor of her home at Charmco, Greenbrier county, Sunday by neighbors. A physician said she apparently had suffered a stroke, possibly as long as four days before.

Her husband, who had been ill for several months, lived with a daughter by a former marriage. His death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. O'Dell was a member of the Millbrook Baptist Church and the Beckley Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was an automobile salesman in Beckley.

Glenn Lake Shawver, head of the oldest roofing concern in the Kanawha Valley, died in a Charleston hospital yesterday at the age of 71. He had been in ill health. A lifetime Charlestonian, Mr. Shawver resided at 1426 Quarrier St., E. He was president and general manager of the W. F. Shawver and Sons Roofing Co. at 507 Capitol St. The firm was established in 1893 by Mr. Shawver's father. Survivors are his wife, Margaret C.: two sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Monaghan of Beaumont, Tex., and Mrs. Lucille Rectenwald of Charleston. Services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Simpson-Chandler Funeral Home by the Rev. Harry P. Light. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. The body is at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maxie Deitz Egnor, 56, a teacher at a Huntington junior high school and former St. Albans resident, died Thursday in a Huntington hospital after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 24, 1911, in Greenbrier County, she was a duaghter of the late George and Betty Heaster Deitz. She was a graduate of St. Albans High School and Marshall University and had lived in Huntington since 1934.

Survivors include her husband, L. D. Egnor, co-owner of Egnor's Barber Shop; sons, L. D. Egnor, Jr., a Huntington attorney, and Max L. Egnor, a Huntington accountant; sisters, Mrs. Ollie Belville of Detroit, Mrs. Georgie Sumner of Mount Hope, Mrs. Nina Mankin of South Charleston, Mrs. Louise Teubner of Huntington and Mrs. Lovie Puckett of Springdale, W. The latest fatality occurred Sunday at noon near Springdale in Fayette County. James R. (Buddy) Martin, 47, a disabled miner of Dawson, Greenbrier County, died in route ro Summers County Hospital in Hinton after a car in which he was riding collided with another vehicle on W.Va. 20.

Four persons were injured in the accident. They were also taken to Sumemrs County Hospital. Emergency room personnel identified them as James Wheaton, 44, 244 Sixth St., Rainelle, driver of the car in which Martin was riding; Emery McGuire, 38, Phyllis McGuire, 18, and Melvin McGuire, 16, all of Danese, occupants of the second car. All four are patients at the hospital.

Martin's survivors are: wife, Opal; daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ann Hutsenpillar of Dunbar, Mrs. Linda Stalline of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Connie Thomas of Rupert, Miss Debby Lynn Martin and Tammy Martin at home; sons, James R. Funreal services were held Saturday morning in Orange, Va., for Mrs. Ida Lenora Rodes Kite, 26, who died Wednesday in a Richmond, Va., hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident.

She was the daughter of Mrs. Maye P. Rodes of Ansted and the late Nye Goble Rodes. She was also, the niece of Mrs. Edward T. Donnaly and Mrs. F. F. Coperley of Charleston.

Mrs. Kite was a graduate ot Logan high school, the University of Virginia, and had taken post graduate work at Cornell university in obstetrics. She was head nurse of the obstetrical ward at the University of Virginia at the time of her death.

Mrs. Deitz Dies; Former Teacher

LEWISBURG ? Mrs. Andree Fullen Deitz, 83, a retired school teacher of Ronceverte, died Sunday in a Charleston hospital of complications from a hip fracture.

Mrs. Deitz lived at 3703 Washington
Ave., SE, in Charleston. She was a native of Salt Sulphur Springs, Monroe County, and had liveed much of her life in Ronceverte.

Mrs. Deitz taugt music in public schools for 40 years. She was a member of the St. Mark's Methodist Church in Charleston.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jean Bourne and Miss Edna Deitz, both of Charleston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Trinity Methodist Church at Ronceverte with the Rev. Ronald Casto officiating and burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

The body is at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home at Lewisburg and will be taken to the church one hour before services.

BECKLEY May 30 - Funeral services for Mrs. F. M. Walkup, 88 years old, who died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Muncy, in East Park will be held at the Big Clear Creek Greenbrier church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be held in the nearby family cemetery.

Mrs. Walkup was born in Greenbrier county July 23, 1847. She frequently related incidents of the Civil war which she had witnessed while living at Clintonville. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Muncy, Mrs. Laura Hurt, Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Maggie Lawn, W.Va., E.S. Walkup, C.C. Walkup and Henry Walkup, all of Ramp; Lester Walkup, Blue Sulphur, and L.A. Walkup, Conway, Ia.

A brother, Nathan Price of Rupert, and a sister, Mrs. Jane Hazlett of Clintonville are also living.
