A CONTESTED WILL CASE has occupied the attention of the County Court for the past week. Alfred Merrill died, leaving personal property valued at $5,750, and two children, Alfred K. Merrill and Emily J. Myers. He made a will giving the daughter $40, and the son $5,710. The daughter contested on the ground of insanity, and, after fighting the case a week, took $1,000 and called it square. Like sensible people, they concluded to settle the matter themselves rather than waste the entire estate in endless litigation.

Seeking parents of Benjamin Ervine, who settled Highland County, Va, c.a. 1800. He supposedly mar. Mary ? (b. in Ireland c., 1750). My ancestor is his dau., Frances, b. 1797, who mar. William E. Ervine, Sr. (nephew of Benjamin) in 1816. William came to Highland from Rockingham County.

I believe that there were five Ervin/Ervine brothers who settled the Augusta region in the early 1700's: Robert, Francis, Edward, Benjamin and John. I am unable to determine whether or not my Benjamin is the same as the early settler.

I would like to find the parents of my ancestor William, and also the parents and wife of Benjamin.

Any help is appreciated.

Two die in pickup crash

SHEPHERDSVILLE - Two men died when their pickup truck ran off the road and crashed into a tree early Sunday in Bullitt County, authorities said.

Michael Gray Knapp Sr., 36, of Hillview, and Donald Lee "Boo" Hazelwood Jr., 23, of Shepherdsville, were pronounced dead at the scene, said Deputy Coroner Glenda Heath.

Mr. Knapp was driving and apparently lost control of his Ford pickup truck about 2:30 a.m. on Blue Lick Road in Shepherdsville, Mr. Heath said.

Ms. Heath wasn't sure if the men were wearing seat belts.

The half-mile stretch of road where the accident occurred has been the site of several fatal crashes in the past few years, Ms. Heath said.
