Raymond Ira Blagg, 84, of Beaufort, a retired Marine master sergeant, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, in Summit Place of Beaufort.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Anderson Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Beaufort National Cemetery.

Mr. Blagg was born April 11, 1921, in Calumet, Okla., a son of the late Harrison Ira Blagg and Blanche Ridenour Blagg.

He served in the Marines for more than 20 years, was with the 2nd Marine Battalion during World War II. He was awarded numerous medals, including the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area, American Defense, Korean Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He lived in Beaufort for 50 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou Brewton of Hardeeville and Ann Blagg Lewis of Hopkins; a brother, Cameron Arthur Blagg of Walsenberg, Colo.; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Blagg.

Memorials may be made to Beaufort County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1228, Beaufort, SC 29901, or the charity of one's choice.

Vivian B. Blagg, 79, of Beaufort, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Ms. Blagg was born March 4, 1924, in Watertown, N.Y. She was a charter member of the Mossy Oaks Garden Club. She was a Girl Scout for many years and a volunteer at the Beaufort Naval Hospital.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Raymond I. Blagg of Beaufort; two daughters, Mary Lou Brewton and her husband, Charlie Brewton, of Hardeeville and Ann Lewis and her husband, Jim Lewis, of Hopkins; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Beaufort Humane Association.

Oak Hill - Mrs. Jessie Margaret Berry Higginbotham, 71, of 128 Third Ave., died Wednesday at 2:55 a.m. in an Oak Hill medical center apparently of a heart attack.

Born April 11, 1913, at Fire Creek, she was a daughter of the late Marion L. and Ethel Haley Berry.

Mrs. Higginbotham was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Virgil, Frank and Lester Berry and a sister, Ellen Mae Burns.

Survivors include her husband, Billy W. Higginbotham; a son, Billy Wayne Higginbotham of Oak Hill; three daughters, Rose Marie Fleshman Godbey of Fayetteville, N.C., Margaret Ann Higginbotham of Oak Hill and Sharon Jean Higginbotham of Beckley; two sisters, Elsie Fleshman of Danese and Opal Adkins of Gatewood; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating. Burial will be in High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.

Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill and one hour prior to services.

Oak Hill Resident Dies In Hospital

OAK HILL (RNS) - Funeral services for Lewis D. McClung, 75, of 220 Second St., Oak Hill, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel here by the Rev. Hilbert McClung of Beckley.

Burial will be in Hill Top Cemetery.

McClung died at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday in a Beckley hospital after a one-year illness. He was a retired employe of the New River Coal Co. at Skelton and a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at Mount Lookout.

Born in Nicholas County, Sept. 25, 1883, the deceased formerly lived at Skelton and Mount Hope.

Survivors include his wife, Fannie; four sons, Ernest of Skelton, Max of Mount Hope, Paul of Harlan, Ky., and C. P. of Moorehaven, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Hess of Beckley; a stepson, Jess Cantley of Canton, Ohio; five brothers, J. I. of Minden, Kelly and Shelor, both of Nallon, Duffy of Arkansas, and Horatious of Oak Hill; four sisters, Mrs. J. H. Legg of North Bend, Wash., Mrs. Leslie Hazlett of Oak Hill, Mrs. Goldie Sullivan of Ansted, and Mrs. Prama Grose of Alta; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be W. T. Canterbury, Ernest Chandler, Emmelt Nichols, C. D. Williams, L. R. Nobel, and Lewis Hammonds.

Frank Monroe Berry, 59, Danese, died Friday evening at his home following a heart attack.

A disabled miner, he was a member of MacDonald-Warren Masonic Lodge No. 103, Mount Hope. Born March 1, 1907 at Fire Creek, he was a son of the late Louis and Ethel Berry.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Miss Elizabeth Berry, Richmond, Va., and Virginia and Sandra, both of Danese; four sisters, Mrs. Mae Burns, Layland, Mrs. Jessie Higginbotham, Oak Hill, Mrs. Opal Adkins, Brooklyn and Mrs. Elsie Fleshman, Danese; and a brother, Lester, Layland.

Miss Deborah Carol Marlor To Become December Bride

Mr. and Mrs. James A. Marlor Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla. have announced the engagement of their daughter, Deborah Carol, to Leonard Richard Tomlin Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard R. Tomlin of St. Petersburg.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Glenwood High School in Canton, Ohio and is employed by the St. Petersburg Times and Independent. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Maude Terreo of 109 Crescent St.

Tomlin is a graduate of Northeast High School in St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg Junior College. He attended the University of Alabama and served in the U. S. Air Force. He is chief accountant for the Twin Lakes Manufacturing Co.

Miss Marlor and Tomlin will exchange vows Dec. 6 in the Allendale United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg.

Addie B. Craft Dies In Hospital

RUPERT (RNS) ? Mrs. Addie Black Craft, 69, of Rupert died in a Clifton Forge, Va., hospital Thursday after a long illness.

Born March 15, 1898, she was the daughter of the late William and Virginia Osborne Black.

She was a member of the Big Clear Creek Baptist Church at Rupert.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Hilda Crookshanks of Rupert, Mrs. Fern Summers of Charleston and Mrs. Francis Clingenpeel of Chicago, Ill.; four sons, James and Harry Jr., both of Rupert, Ronald of Rainelle and William of Brunswick, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Ina Osborne of Hines and Mrs. Lina Simms of Danese; a brother, Carl Black of Danese; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Big Clear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Lee White and Rev. Leroy Crane in charge. Burial will be in the End-of-the-Trail Cemetery at Clintonville.

The body will remain at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in East Rainelle where friends may call after 4 p.m. today.

He died Thursday morning in a Weston hospital of natural causes.

Born in Rainelle, July 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Andrew and Daisy Neff Osborne.

He was a retired Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Co. employe, a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 372, Rainelle, and the Sewell Valley Baptist Church, Rainelle.

Born May 26, 1903 at Craig, he was a son of the late John L. and Ollie Osborne Smith.

Survivors, include his wife, Velma Smith; one daughter, Mrs. Lowell Jones, Louisville, Ky.; five sisters, Mrs. Wavie Wiseman, Mrs. Pansy Mitchell, Mrs. Catherine Hess, Mrs. Wanda Hardy, and Mrs. Warna Roberts, all of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, J. L. Smith Jr., Detroit, and Walter of Phoenix, Ariz., and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday in the Sewell Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. P. E. Orndoff in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

RAINELLE (RNS) ? David Bruce Sanford, 59, of Rainelle died Friday at work of an apparent heart attack.

Born Jan. 28, 1912, a son of the late Henry and Victoria Sevy Sanford, he was a car repairman for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in Rainelle.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Sims Sanford; a daughter, Mrs. Karen Henson of Covington, Va.; three sons, Marion of Falls Church, Va., and David and Ricky, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Cuma Sims of Rainelle; seven brothers, Claude, Cleve, Robert, Rhodie, Hershel and Russell, all of Rainelle, and Natt of Nallen, and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Don Smathers Funeral Chapel in Rainelle with Rev. Harry Zickafoose and Rev. Bert Jones in charge. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Dr. Jesse Taliferro Johnson, 67, of 317 Third Avenue, Hinton died at 4:30 p. m. Saturday in a Beckley hospital.

He was injured in an automobile accident in Summers County July 4.

Born Oct. 24, 1899 in Henry County, Va., he was the son of the late Johnny and Nannie Walker Johnson.

He was a member of the Central Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He attended West Virginia University and graduated from Emory University in 1928. He practiced medicine in both Raleigh and Summers counties.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Lee Moomau, Rockville, Md.; three sons, J. T. Jr., Hinton, Jimmy, stationed with the armed forces at Ft. Myers, Wash. D.C. and William, Germantown, Md.; three brothers, J. D., Atlanta, Ga., A. E., Jacksonville, Fla. and Virgil, Meadow Bridge; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Thomas, Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Myrtle Hall, Meadow Bridge and six grandchildren.

The body is at the E. M. Meadows Funeral Home in Hinton.

ALDERSON, Sept 16 ? Miss Helen Hopkins, daughter of Mrs. William Hopkins of Montgomery, and the late Mr. Hopkins, and Mr. Robert Eugene Phipps, son of Mrs. Enoch Phipps, and the late Mr. 'Phipps, were married in the Methodist Church in Montgomery, Tuesday, at 7:30 p. m. with the Rev. B. W. John, pastor performing the double ring ceremony at a candlelight Altar Service.

The bride was dressed in a pale pink street length frock with, navy accessories and her flowers were a corsage of pink rosebuds. Her only attendant, Miss Bonnie Boggess, was attired in a light blue dress with black accessories and wearing a corsage of yellow rosebuds. Mr. Phipps best man was Mr. George F. Hopkins of Montgomery, a brother of the bride.

Mrs. Phipps attended Montgomery schools and is a graduate of the Laird Memorial Hospital of Nursing, and at present is employed at the Laird Memorial Hospital, Montgomery. Mr. Phipps, a graduate of Alderson High School, is a student at West Virginia School of Technology, Montgomery, where he expects to continue his studies. He served two years with the United States Navy. The couple will reside at 1st Avenue, Montgomery.

Guests from Alderson attending the wedding were Mrs. Enoch Phipps, Miss Betty Phipps, Charles Phipps and Mr. and Mrs. George Bare.

Funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine Terreo Laston, 51, of Canton, Ohio, formerly of Eccles, were held Wednesday April 10 at the St. Stephens
Martyr Lutheran Church with Revs. Ned J. McMillen and Tom B. Homrighausen officiating.

Burial was in Sunset Hills Burial Park at Canton.

Mrs. Laston died April 9 in her home after a long illness. Survivors include her husband, Frank; a son Ronald at home; her mother, Mrs. Maude
Terreo of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, James Terreo of Ashland, Ky. and two sisters, Mrs. Freda Gill of Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. Joetta Marlor of St. Petersburg.

MEADOW BLUFF (RNS) - Hansford H. Phipps, 57, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Meadow Bluff, died Saturday in a Portland hospital after a long illness.

He was a veteran of World War II and son of Mrs. Virginia Phipps of Meadow Bluff and the late Lewis Phipps.

Other survivors include his wife, Mary O'Dell Phipps of Rainelle; a daughter, Miss Carolyn Phipps of Richwood; seven sisters, Mrs. Effie Chase of Hillsboro, Ore., Mrs. Margy Counts of Duo, Mrs. Blanche Thompson of Clintonville, Mrs. Frances Hiser of Crawley, Mrs. Stella Hunter of Meadow Bluff, Mrs. Louise Trofitt of North Carolina, and Mrs. Gertrude Thompson of Lordsburg, N. M., and three brothers, Edward of Banks, Ore., Ulysses of Lordsburg and Noah of Agate Beach, Ore.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today in the Gobel Funeral Home in Portland. Burial will be in Williamnette National Cemetery at Portland.

Phipps Rites Read Tuesday

Hansford H. Phipps, Mist Drive, Vernonia, passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Portland May 15, 1971, following an extended illness. He was born August 2, 1914 in Mt. Hope, Raleigh County, West Virginia. He had resided in Vernonia in recent years, but lived a number of years in the Banks area.

Rev. J. E. Baker of the Timber Friends Church officiated at the services which were conducted at the Gable Funeral Home in Portland, Tuesday, May 18.

Acting as pallbearers were Robert Borders, Barry Tunison, Anthony Osborne, James Koch, Ralph Lunsford and M. F. Garmon. H. Lynn Gordon, soloist, was accompanied by Mrs. H. A. Hunderup, organist.

Mr. Phipps followed the logging and mechanical trades during his lifetime. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving from 1942 - 1945.

Surviving include: His mother, Mrs. Louis (Virginia) Phipps; a daughter, Carolyn, in West Virginia; seven sisters, Effie Chase of Hillsboro, Louise Prorfiett in No. Carolina, Gertrude Thompson, New Mexico, and Blanche Thompson, Stella Hunter, Frances Heser and Margie McCarthy, all in W.V.; and three brothers, Ulysses, N.M., Noah, Agate Beach, and Edward of Banks.

Another brother and his father preceded him in death.

Concluding rites and interment were in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

FORT SPRING (RNS) - Funeral services for Mrs. Beatrice Marie Dowdy, 58, died Tuesday morning in a Fairlea hospital of natural causes.

She had lived in Fort Spring 20 years and was a member of the Sinks Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Joann) Conner of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Debra M. White of Airville, Pa., and Mrs. Mayda Mahone of Richmond, Va., and five grandchildren.

The body is at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte.

Willie E. Walkup Succumbs At 68

ALDERSON (RNS) - Willie Elmer Walkup, 68, of Alderson died Wednesday morning in a Hinton hospital after a long illness.

He was a retired carpenter and farmer and a member of the Blue Sulphur Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Bragg of Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. Carol Reed of Alderson; three sons, Billy Joe, Bobby and Jeffrey, all of Alderson; three sisters, Mrs. Zinna Hunter of Rupert, Mrs. Delta Shortridge of Crawley and Mrs. Mabel Bennett of Smoot; one brother, Wyatt of Alderson, and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Maude Chapel Methodist Church at Dawson with Rev. Rex Ball in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body is at the Jack Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg where friends may call after 1 p.m. today.

Ellen Burns Dies; Rites Incomplete

LAYLAND (RNS) - Mrs. Ellen Mae Burns, 66, of Layland died Monday at her home after a short illness.

Born Nov. 28, 1904, at Fire Creek, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Ethel Haley Berry.

Survivors include her husband, James; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Hickinbotham of Oak Hill, Mrs. Opal Adkins of Fayetteville, Mrs. Elsie Fleshman of Danese, and a brother, Lester of Danese.

She was a member of Layland Heights Baptist Church.

The body is at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle.

Reburial Rites Set For Soldier

LAYLAND, Sept. 20 - The body of Staff Sgt. Raymond L. Berry, who was shot down over Germany on March 24, 1945, is being returned home for reburial.

Berry was serving as a gunner with the Eighth Airforce when he was killed.

The body will arrive at Meadow Creek Saturday morning and will be removed to the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in East Rainelle.

He is survived by his mother, Ethel Berry, of Layland; four sisters, Mrs. Mae Burns, of Layland; Mrs. Jessie Higginbotham, of Oak Hill; Mrs. Opal Adkins, of Kathryn and Mrs. Elsie Fleshman, of Danese; three brothers, Virgil and Frank, of Fire Creek and Lester, of Bellepoint.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Chestnut Knob Community Church in Layland Heights with Rev. L. M. Legg officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrah cemetery on Backus Mountain.

Parthena Arnold Succumbs At 82

JUMPING BRANCH, Apr. 23 - Final rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Bluestone Baptist Church for Mrs. Parthena Arnold, 82, who died at the Jumping Branch home of her daughter, Mrs. Mamie Upton, at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Stanaford, Raleigh county.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Elmira Lucas, of Beckley, two daughters, Mrs. Josie Gray, and Mrs. Upton, both of Jumping Branch and three sons, Josh Arnold, of White Oak, Bill Arnold, of Leevale, and Pete Arnold of Jumping Branch.

Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

MEADOW BLUFF, Aug. 27 - Frank Phipps, 23, of Meadow Bluff, died in the C and O hospital, Clifton Forge, Va., Monday.

He was a tinner by trade and a member of the Baptist church.

Milam Funeral Set Wednesday

Funeral services for Lewis Crockett Milam, 77, of Arnett, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Arnett Chapel, with the Rev. Leslie Garten officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wade Webb and the Rev. John Richardson. Burial will be in the Milam Cemetery, Saxon.
Milam died at 2 a.m. Monday following a lengthy illness.
Born May 11, 1884, he was a son of the late John and Cynthia Webb Milam. He was a retired miner, a member of the Arnett Chapel, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margie Milam, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Edna Sarrett of Akron, Ohio; one son, Norvell Milam of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Narcissus Webb of Madisonville, Ky. and Mrs. Glena Cook of Dorothy; four brothers, Chris of Belle, Sidney of Crawley, Freda of Eccles, and Everett of Glen Daniel; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The body will remain at the Melton Mortuary, where friends may call after 4 p.m. today, and will be removed to the church at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral services for Louis Balaskey, 57, formerly of Prosperity, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel at Sophia with Rev. Ernest Barley officiating. Burial will be in the Canaday Cemetery at Glen View.

Balaskey died at 8:45 a.m. in Saturday in a Chillicothe, Ohio hospital following a long illness. He was a disabled miner and a veteran of World War II. Born Jan. 16, 1918 in New Brunswick, N.J., he was a son of the late Frank and Julia Balaskey.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Cozart Balaskey of Beckley; a stepson, Jack E. Cozart of Crab Orchard; three brothers, Frank of Durham, N. C. and Charles and Ernest, both of Pontiac, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Suzie Lovell of Sprague, Mrs. Annie Harupo of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Nellie Colgan and Mrs. Julia Benjamin, both of Pontiac, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Judith Lynn Terreo Weds Frank Von Burns In Vows

Former Beckleyans, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Terreo, Ashland, fy., have announced the wedding of their daughter, Miss Judith Lynn Terreo, and Frank Von Burns of Ashland.

He is the son of the late Mrs. Fred A. Burns, Route 2, Ashland, and the late Mr. Burns. The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. Maude Terreo of Beckley, and a niece of Mrs. Willard Brown, Mrs. John Santy
and Mrs. Joe Italiano, all of Beckley.

The wedding took place in Holy Family Church at Ashland, with the Rev. Theodora Keller celebrating
nuptial high mass. Wedding music was played by Sister Cecilia Claire, CDP, organist, and the mass was sung by the church High School Girls' Choir.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a bouffant gown of delustered satin and reembroidered lace, and a shoulder-length veil of silk illusion. She carried a colonial bouquet of white carnations, roses and lilies of the valley, and her jewelry, gifts of the bridegroom, were pearl earrings and a diamond and pearl pendant.

Miss Mary Applegate of Louisville was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Mrs. Don Schmeisser, Coal Grove, Ohio, sister of the bridegroom; Miss Mary Jo Lynch and Miss Mary Jo Bond. Miss Grace Ann Terreo, sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid.

Fred A. Burns Jr., Lexington, Ky., served his brother as best man, and ushers were Louis J. Henry, Columbus, Ohio; John P. Friel, Fort Knox, Ky., David W. Klaiber and David E. Terreo, brother of the bride.

Mary Kay and Diane Terreo, sisters of the bride, were flower girls, and Craig Schmeisser, a nephew of the bridegroom, was ring bearer. Accolytes were Richard Terreo, brother of the bride, and Dennis Arthur.

For the reception held at Ashland Elks Club, a four-tier cake made by Mrs. Brown of Beckley, was served.

Carrie Worrell?s Rites Scheduled

Mrs. Carrie Worrell, 85, of MacArthur, died in her sleep Tuesday morning following an apparent heart attack.

Born June 25, 1885, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred Haley.

She is survived by one brother, John Henry Haley of Sophia; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Phipps of Cowley; two half-sisters, Mrs. Nora Berry of Johnstown, Pa., and Mrs. Goldie McGovern, address unknown.

Otis Bevins Dies On Fourth Street

Otis L. Bevins, 64-year-old resident of Piney View, died last night at the home of his daughter, Miss Marie Bivens of 106 Fourth St., with whom he had been visiting for a week.

He had worked in the coal mine all his life and had operated a mine of his own before retiring about five years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie Bevins of Piney View.

The body will remain at the Melton Mortuary pending completion of the funeral arrangements.

Funeral services for Otis L. Bevins, 64, of Piney View, who died Thursday evening, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today by the Rev. L. A. Garten. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

He was employed prior to his retirement as a mine foreman for the Mason Coal Co. and was a member of the Baptist Church at Royal for the past 40 years.

George M. Bivenn, 71, of 410 Myers Avenue, East Beckley, died in a local hospital at 3:30 p.m. yesterday following an illness of the last four years.

A Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company conductor for 42 years, he had been a resident of East Beckley for the 18 years.

Born in Alderson, Oct. 25, 1879, he was the son of Jim and Fannie Walkup Bivenn, and was a member of the Methodist Church.

The body will remain at Calfee Funeral Home pending the completion of the funeral arrangements.

RAINELLE (RNS) ? David Sims, 20, died at 10 a.m. Monday at his home. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack. He was a truck driver.

Born at Rainelle, April 11, 1946, he was a son of George E. Sims and Dicie Sanford Sims of Rainelle.

Other survivors include two brothers, Clifford of Rainelle and Frankie of Charleston, and four sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Sylvia) Barlow of Annadale, Va., Mrs. Paul (Glenna) Boggs of Rupert, Mrs. James (Virginia) Hudkins of Rainelle and Miss Shirley Sims, at home.

RAINELLE (RNS) ? Mrs. Henrietta Caroline Harlowe O'Dell, 88, of Rainelle, died at 2 p.m. Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary O'Dell Phipps of Rainelle.

She was a retired music teacher, a member of the Soule Methodist Church of Meadow Bluff and a graduate of the Greenbrier College for Women.

Born at Lewisburg, Jan. 1, 1876, she was the daughter of the late Colonel Benjamin M. and Henrietta Renick Harlowe.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1958.

Other survivors include two brothers, Homer of Houston, Texas, and Warren Harlowe of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. J. H. Bell of Lynchburg, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Annette Thayer of Bloomfield, N. J.; two sons, Thomas and J. W. O'Dell, both of Rainelle; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Soule Methodist Church at Meadow Bluff with the Rev. Rex Ball in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will remain at Nickell Funeral Home in East Rainelle and will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral.

VICTOR (RNS) - Mrs. Mina Retha Fox, 61, of Victor died Tuesday afternoon in a Montgomery hospital after a long illness.

Her husband, Guy, preceded her in death in August 1967.

She was a lifelong resident of Victor and a member of the Mount Eary Methodist Church at Ramsey.

She was born Sept. 7, 1906, at Ansted, and was the daughter of the late Warren and Esther McClung Fox.

Survivors include two daughters, Eula May and Uldin both at home; a son, Eugene, at home; a sister, Mrs. Navada Baker of Hopewell; a brother, Naaman Fox of Mount Lookout; and a grandchild.

The body is at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Ansted. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

ILLNESS TAKES S. T. GILKESON

SPRINGDALE, May 9 - Samuel Thompson Gilkeson, 77, a well known Fayette County farmer, died around 9 p.m. last night at his home. He had been in ill health for the past several months.

A native of Fayette County, Mr. Gilkeson was born on the farm where he has spent his entire life. He was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Gilkeson, and was born October 4, 1873.

Surviving are eight children of the first marriage, who are Stoughton E. Gilkeson, Rainelle, and Ralph M. Gilkeson, Charleston; and six daughters, Mrs. Lottie Kenny and Mrs. Carrie Smith, Rainelle; Mrs. Dora Crusse and Mrs. Madge Haynes, East Rainelle; Mrs. Lois Thornton, Ironton, 0., and Mrs. Nora Brearley, Wilmington, Del.

Other survivors include one brother, John M. Gilkeson, Ansted, and a sister, Mrs. Tava Ashley, of Corliss; 33 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside rites will be held at the cemetery near his residence Friday at 2 p.m. The body will be removed to the home from Nickell Mortuary Thursday at 2 p.m.

Greenbrier Man Dies; Rites Set

MEADOW BLUFF (RNS) ? Clarence Sylvester Osborne, 88 of Norfolk, Va., formerly of Meadow Bluff, died Monday at his home.

He was a son of the late Andy A. and Frances Jones Osborne.

He was a member of the Sewell Chapel United Methodist Church at Meadow Bluff, a retired coal miner and farmer and had lived at Norfolk for about 12 years.

Survivors include three sons, Robert E. and Clyde E., both of Norfolk, Va., and Cary of Palm Bay, Fla.; five sisters, Mrs. George Henderson of Rupert, Mrs. Sadie Drennen of Gordonsville, Va., Mrs. Ora Callison of Wayco, Texas, Mrs. George Hunter of McRoss and Mrs. Lacy Fleshman of Beckley; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with Rev. Ray Perkins in charge. Burial will be in the End-of-the-Trail Cemetery at Clintonville.

Osborne died Sunday evening of natural causes.

A disabled coal miner, Osborne was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was a retired diamond core driller.

POOL (RNS) - Mrs. Florence Iolene Ramsey, 41, of Pool died Sunday in a Charleston hospital after a short illness.

She was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church.

Osborne Funeral Set On Thursday

CHARMCO, Sept. 12 - John Solomon Osborne, 66, of Charmco, and an employee of the Johnstown Coal & Coke Company at Crichton, died at 10:30 p.m. last night in the Hinton Hospital, and following an illness of only a few days.

Mr. Osborne was a son of the late George and Mattie Smith Osborne, and was born at Crag, Nov. 20, 1883. His wife is the former Miss Ina Black of Fayette County.

Besides his wife, Mr. Osborne is survived by five daughters, Mrs. L. M. Walkup, Mrs. R. E. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Mary Smith, of Quinnimont; and seven brothers, Adrian Osborne, of Meadow Bluff; Thomas, of Leivasy; Lee, of Duo; Samuel, of Meadow Bridge; Dewey, of Clearco, and Everette and Delbert, both of Crag.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Amwell Baptist Church east of Rupert, with the church pastor, Rev. J. E. Smith, and the Rev. Harry J. Simms, also of Rupert, officiating. Interment will be in The End of the Trail Cemetery.

The body will be removed to the home from Nickell Mortuary tomorrow afternoon.

Rites Incomplete For J. E. Smith

HINES (RNS) ? The Rev. Joseph Edward Smith, 71, of Hines died Sunday morning at his home. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

He was a Baptist minister for 34 years, serving churches in Greenbrier, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Monroe and Fayette counties.

Born Oct. 20, 1894, near Rainelle, he was a son of the late Harvey and Jane Sims Smith.

He was a member of the Amwell Baptist Church at Rupert.

Survivors include his wife, Dovie Sanford Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Rovenia Boggs of Hines and Mrs. Eileen Walkup of Newport News, Va.; two sons, Garland of Rainelle and Walter H. of Hines; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Lawson of MacArthur; two brothers, Clarence and George, both of Rainelle; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The body is at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in East Rainelle. Arrangements are incomplete.

MRS. CLARA WITHROW DIES AT SON'S HOME

LEWISBURG, May 13 - Mrs. Clara C. Withrow, 77, widow of the late Thomas Withrow, died at the home of her son, Delmar Withrow, of Unus, this morning.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. J. Q. Geiger and Rev. J. P. Proffitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Renick Cemetery.

Surviving are another son, Ernest Withrow of Frankford; three daughters, Mrs. G. R. Morton, Websters Springs; Mrs. L. S. McFerrin, Williamsburg; and Mrs. J. Z. Weathers, of Shelby, N.C.; one brother, Tom Brown, Renick.

The body will be removed from the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home to the home of her son, Delmar Withrow, Friday at 5 p.m.

Rites Scheduled For Area Woman

CRAWLEY (RNS) ? Mrs. Mabel Blanche Puckett, 66, died at her home Tuesday morning after a short illness.

Born April 13, 1903, at Smoot, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence Allen Perkins.

Survivors include her husband, Dan; a daughter, Mrs. Merna Ralston of Roanoke, Va.; a son, Frank, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Thompson of Clintonville, Mrs. Nell Legg of East Rainelle and Mrs. Irma Austin of Monroe, Ohio; and four brothers, Ralph of Smoot, Robert of Lanark and Roe and Rev. Ray Perkins, both of Crawley.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today in the Don Smathers Funeral Home Chapel in East Rainelle with Rev. Charles W. Ambrose, Jr. in charge. Burial will be in the Puckett Cemetery at Vale.

The body is at the funeral home.

Robert Osborne Succumbs At 57

QUINWOOD (RNS) - Robert Elbert Osborne, 57, died at his home near Quinwood at 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Death was attributed to a heart condition.

Born at Rainelle, May 7, 1902, he was a retired Chesapeake and Ohio Railway engineer.

Survivors include his wife, Erma; his mother, Mrs. Lona Osborne of East Rainelle; two sisers, Mrs. Ethel Fleshman and Mrs. Erma Shearer, both of East Rainelle; two sons, Harold, stationed with the Air Force in
Jacksonville, Ark., and Donald, stationed with the U.S. Air Patrol at Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Edwards of Sacramento, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

The body is at Nickell Funeral Home in East Rainelle. Arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral Is Today For Ingram Child

Funeral services for Rocky L. Ingram, new-born son of Roy and Mary Alice Milam Ingram of Wyco, will be conducted today at 7 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home of Sophia by the Rev. Okey Cox.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The infant died four hours after birth Tuesday afternoon. Originally, graveside rites were planned.

Survivors other than the parents include two brothers, Randy Lee and David Dewayne, both at home; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Zola Jane Milam; and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Milam, all of Ury.

The body will remain at Williams Funeral Home.

INJURIES FATAL TO H. J. SIMMS

LAYLAND, July 15 - Henry Robert Simms, 71-year old Fayette County farmer, died late yesterday in a Beckley hospital after he suffered injuries to his stomach while shoeing a horse at his home. The horse became unruly and after throwing Mr. Simms to the ground stepped on his stomach causing injuries that resulted in his death. The accident occurred the preceeding day.

A son of the late John Simms and Mrs. Margaret Osborne Simms, he was born at what is now Bellwood, Fayette County, on September 28, 1877.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Roxie Simms, also three daughters of a previous marriage, Mrs. Grace Small, Oak Hill, Mrs. May Jones, Layland, and Mrs. Vivian Haynes of South Charleston, also six grandchildren; and two brothers, Wm. and B.O. Simms, both of Rainelle; and two sisters, Mrs. Donna Williams of Meadow Bridge, and Mrs. Bertie Adkins of Midkiff.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at the Layland Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Pomeroy of Beelick Knob, and a nephew, Rev. Harry Simms of Lookout officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

The body will be removed to the home late this afternoon. Mr. Simms was a member of the Little Creek Baptist Church near Rainelle.
