OBITUARIES

Jeremiah G. Helms

Jeremiah (Jerry) Graham Helms, 82, of Clover Creek, near McDowell, died at DeJarnette Sanitarium Wednesday, Dec. 24, following a lingering illness.

Mr. Helms, a well known Highland farmer, was a son of Strother and Polly Lockridge Helms, and was born in Highland Aug. 27, 1887. He was an elder of the Clover Creek Presbyterian Church; a 50 year member of Highland Lodge 110, A. F. & A. M., and a charter member of the Stonewall Ruritan Club.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Bradshaw Helms, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held at 2 p. m. Saturday, Dec. 27 from the Clover Creek Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack E. Maxwell and the Rev. Bernard R. Skeens. Interment was in the adjacent cemetery with Masonic rites. Obaugh Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers were Charles Helms, Raymond Helms, Charles T. Bradshaw, R. G. Bradshaw, Howard Hicklin, Mason Hamilton, Charles Samples and Herbert H. Samples.

Members of the Stonewall Ruritan Club, Masons, and friends and neighbors were honorary pallbearers. Nieces served as flowerbearers.

SQUIRE WILSON DEAD

This community was shocked and saddened to leran of the passing of Mr. S. W. "Squire" Wilson, which occurred at his home west of Headwaters at three o'clock this morning (Thursday).

Funeral services will be held from his late residence Saturday June 20 at two o'clock and will be in charge of the Masonic organization of which he was a member. Burial will take place in Thornrose cemetery, Staunton.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his widow, who was formerly Miss Minnie O. Bradshaw of McDowell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bradshaw.

We trust that some relative or friend will submit a suitable sketch of the life of this estimable gentleman to the Recorder for publication in next week's issue.

SQUIRE W. WILSON DIED EARLY THURSDAY AT HIGHLAND HOME

Squire W. Wilson, seventy-nine, widely known resident of Highland county, died Thursday morning at two o'clock at his home near Headwaters. He had been in failing health several years.

The funeral will be held at the residence Saturday at two p. m., conducted by the Rev. Lyle M. Moffett of the Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers will be active, Gilbert Mitchell, L. D. McNulty, Edward Arbogast, W. I. Hevener, R. M. Brand of Waynesboro, James Ervin; honorary, E. J. Maloy, Seybrooke McClung, Dr. Fox, A. C. Thomas, E. B. Jones, J. Taylor Reynolds, Jacob Armstrong, Paul Hiner, Ambrose Rexrode, A. P. Bickle, Richard Hicklin, Loy Mitchell, L. M. Simmons, J. R. McCray, Russell Ervin, Pat Maloy.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Bradshaw Wilson.

John Joseph Fernandez passed away on June 23, 2019, in Anchorage, Alaska. Graveside Services with Navy Honors will be held at Fort Richardson National Cemetery on July 2, 2019, at 1 p.m. Anyone attending the services will need to meet at Ft. Richardson main gate on Glenn Highway at 12:30 p.m. to line up for the procession on base. Arrangements entrusted to Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home.
