SMOOT - Roy M. Hunter, 84, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness.

Born March 6, 1917, in Kieffer, he was the son of the late Jennings and Zenna Walkup Hunter.

Mr. Hunter was a farmer, miner and lumberman and was of the Methodist faith. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having received three medals for serving his country during the American Campaign, European African Middle Eastern Campaign and while serving on Oran Roberts Liberty Ship as seaman 1st gunnermate from April 20, 1944, to Aug. 18, 1945.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelvie Jean Pitsenbarger Miller, in 1973; two brothers, Ray and Marvin Hunter; and five sisters, Gertrude Quick, Margie Walkup, Ruth Lauer, Dorothy Hunter and Jackie Eilts.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Stella Retha Phipps Hunter; three daughters, Shirley King and her husband, Jimmy, of Crawley, and Dale Riffey and her husband, David, and Diana Miller and her husband, Bill, all of Meadow Bluff; two sons, Warren Hunter and his wife, Kay, of Rainelle and Wyatt Hunter and his wife, Bonnie, of Asbury; two brothers, Robert Hunter of Crawley and Carl Hunter of Rupert; two sisters, Gladys Hedrick of Kessler and Gaye Eilts of Wabash, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Smathers Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with the Revs. Mike Tincher and Bill Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Old Amwell Church, Meadow Bluff. Graveside services will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Obituary

NEIL KING

Neil Laymon King, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul King of 1 Kingsley Ave., died Monday afternoon at the Rutland Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 14, 1955, in Rutland. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Lee Anne; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Chellis of Rutland; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Jennings McIntyre of Clarksburg, W. Va.

Private funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

RITES FOR NEIL KING

Private funeral services for Neil Laymon King, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul King of 1 Kingsley Ave. who died Monday, were held Wednesday at the Aldous Funeral Home. The Rev. Gordon Aldrich, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiated.

Flowers were received from Amvets Post 8, Malone, N.Y., Paul's Cleaners, friends at Malone, N.Y., Woodcraft, Hollywood Barber and Beauty Shop, relatives, friends and neighbors.

Entombment was in Evergreen Cemetery, the Rev. Mr. Aldrich officiating at the committal service.

Aged Keystone Man Dies of Poisoning

John A. Worrell died at his home five miles north of Keystone at 8:10 a m. Tuesday after a short illness of uremic poisoning.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Archie Kinion pastor of the Church of God of this city in charge. Interment was made in the Keystone cemetery under the direction of the Lewis and Landrith company.

Mr. Worrell was born July 11, 1854, and has lived most all of his life in the Keystone community.

He is survived by a son, Robert Worrell of Tulsa, and two nephews, J. M. Cunningham and J. J. Cunningham of Keystone and a daughter, Mrs. M. L. Brown of Sand Springs.

FILLMORE RESIDENT DIES

Mrs. Lettie Rutherford Garrett, 77, daughter of George R., and Susan C. Rutherford, born Sept. 28, 1872, near Jonesville, Va. She died May 26, in a St. Joseph hospital.

She was married to Henly F. Garrett, May 31, 1891. He preceded her in death May 9, 1908. Mrs. Garrett came to Missouri in 1912 and spent the remainder of her life here.

While a young girl, she united with the Methodist church in Jonesville, Va., and was an active member of the church.

She is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Ella Edwards of Fillmore, and Mrs. Susie Clark of Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Agness Oliver, is deceased. There are two half-brothers: Robert Rutherford of Joplin and Bernard Rutherford of Jonesville, Va.

Services were conducted at the Antioch church Sunday afternoon by Rev. O. H. Loomis and burial in the Antioch cemetery.

Finley Knapp, 79, of Hillview returned to his Heavenly Father Tuesday, August 14, 2012.

Mr. Knapp was born February 13, 1933 in Dawson, West Virginia to the late Joseph and Sarah Coffman Knapp. He was a United States Army veteran who served during the Korean War.

Among those who preceded him in death include his wife, Bonnie Knapp; sons, Michael and Jay Knapp and his parents.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Ferris Hunter.

Mr. Knapp will be cremated.
