Joseph B. McClung, 97, of Huntington, passed away, January 10, 2010, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Facility, Centerville, Ohio. He was born, October 27, 1912, the son of the late Emery E. and Anna Blanche Smith McClung in Talcott, WV. He was a retired electrician at Lawter Electric, a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII, and a member of the Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Opal G. McClung; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Barrett McClung Kvitky of Mission Viejo, Ca and Polly Anna McClung Murdoch of Oregon; one brother, James Hylbert McClung of Charleston. WV. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 A.M at Henson Mortuary, with Rev. Sue Jarrett, officiating. Entombment will follow at Ridgelawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Lexington, Kentucky - June Mary Dann, 98, passed away in the early afternoon Wednesday, July 27, 2022. June was born on December 18, 1923 in Balkan, Kentucky to the late William Martin and Mary Nell (Collins) Wilder. June wed Bennie Dann, September of 1944 and together, they celebrated 52 years of marriage until his passing on February 5, 1997. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor, an active member of Rosemont Baptist Church, and had been an active member in the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile in her earlier years. Left to cherish June is her daughter, Iris (James) Turek; grandchildren, Jimmy (Marin Fiske) and Brandon (Mandy Humston) Turek; great-granddaughter, Lilly. Visitation for June will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Wednesday, August 3rd at Milward – Southland located at 391 Southland Drive. Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Br. Ralph Bradshaw Dead

April 8, 1947 — Early Sunday morning fire destroyed the home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Bradshaw and he, being the only one at home was burned also, his wife and children being with her mother, Mrs Rexrode that night.

He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Bertha Rexrode, three children, Dennis, Joanna, and Darlene, his father, Orrin Bradshaw of Holden, W. Va., two brothers, Robert of Pennsylvania and Glenn of Washington.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mann of Richmond at the Presbyterian Church.

Hymns used were "Sometime We'll Understand"; 'Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me."

His body was taken to the cemetery at McKendree.

Glen D. Bradshaw, 51, died unexpectedly in Washington, D. C. Friday, Feb. 23.

He was the youngest son of the late Sosby B. and Robert O. Bradshaw of McDowell.

Survivors include a brother, Robert Bradshaw of Ahoney City, Pa.; a nephew, Dennis Bradshaw, Newport News; and two nieces, Peggy Bradshaw, Deerfield, and Mrs. Hugh H. Grim, Newport News.

Burial was in Arlington Cemetery Monday, Feb. 26.

OBITUARIES

Mrs. Bertha B. Hooke

Mrs. Bertha B. Hooke, 62, of Deerfield, died Tuesday afternoon, June 15, at Waynesboro Community Hospital. She had been in ill health for some time.

A daughter of the late John R. and Annie Pulliin Rexrode, she was born in Highland County July 19, 1908, and was an active member of the Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, D. Keith Hooke, of Deerfield. Her first husband, Ralph Bradshaw, died in 1947.

Also surviving are two daughters by her first marriage, Mrs. Joanne Graham of Newport News, and Mrs. Peggy Ruleman of Staunton; a son, Ralph Dennis Bradshaw of Newport News; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p. m. today (Thursday) from Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Otis Brown and the Rev. J. E. Maxwell. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Alfred Graham, Ray Graham, J. H. Ramsey, Leonard Hupman, Lohr Vance and Brown Armstrong.

Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Settle Honored On Golden Wedding Anniversary Wednesday

In observance of their Golden Wedding Anniversary Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Settle were honored with a dinner at three o'clock in the afternoon by Mrs. Ray Whittle and Mrs. Harry Young at the former's home on the South Side.

A floral arrangement of yellow and wine chrysanthemums and greenery centered the serving table. Dinner was served buffet style.

The couple was presented with beautifully decorated cake topped with the figure "50" and rosebuds.

Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Settle, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Young and children, Harry, Allen, Danny and Ronnie, Mr and Mrs. Ray Whittle and daughter, and Teresa, Mrs. Edward Young and daughters Margie Sue and Beverly Ann, Mrs. George Surber, Mr. Skip Young and Mrs. James E. Meadows and children, Lynn and Tommy.

The couple, who was united in marriage Jumping Branch by the Rev. Mr. Cole, has resided at Brooklyn since 1918.

Mr. Settle former employee of the C. & O. Railway, retired in July 1952 with 46 years of service.

Mrs. Settle was the former Miss Mary Frances Worrell, daughter of the late Amos and Susan Jane Worrell. She was born in Mercer County April 13, 1883 and moved to this county the age of nine.

Her husband was born in Smith County, Va., November 6, 1885, son of the late B. T. and Victoria Settle.

Mrs. Mary Settle Dies During Nite; Rites Set Sunday

Mrs. Mary F. Settle, 75, died in her sleep last night at her home on Southside. She had been in ill health for the past year.

Born in Mercer County, Mrs. Settle came to Summers County at the age of nine and had been a resident since that time. She was a daughter of the late Amos and Susan J. Worrell.

She was married to Sanford A. Settle who survives, in October, 1907. The couple observed their Golden Wedding anniversary last October.

Mrs. Settle was a member of the Quinimont Baptist church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Helen Whittle of Southside, Mrs. G. A. Surber of Bellepoint and Mrs. Hazel Wiseman of Indianapolis, Ind.; and three nephews, Garnet (Skip) Young, E. H. Young and Harry Young, all of the Southside.

Funeral services will be conducted at the E. M. Meadows Funeral Home on Park Avenue at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. H. U. Thompson. Burial is to be made in the Greenbrier Burial Park.

The body will remain at the funeral home.

Benjamin Harold Akers, 19, died Thursday, June 9, near Smoot in a one-vehicle accident, according to state police spokesman at the Rainelle detachment.

Born November 27, 1968, at Hinton, he was the son of Robert Harold and Frances McCutheon Akers of Grassy Meadows.

Mr. Akers was formerly employed by Winn Dixie in North Carolina and was of the Jehovah's Witness faith.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Robin Akers, on June 13, 1987.

Services were held Sunday June 12 at Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with Speaker Curtis Guyer officiating. Burial followed in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

FRENCH LEE BLAGG

French Lee Blagg, 60, died Mon. Sept. 7, 1992, in a Richmond, Va. hospital, following a short illness.

Born Mar. 17, 1932, in Braxton Co., he was the son of the late W. M. Blagg Sr. and Mary Burks Blagg.

Mr. Blagg was a retired U.S. Army Vietnam and Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Vesta Mae Blagg; and a brother, James C. Blagg.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Richmond Blagg; stepmother, Martha Blagg of Danese; a daughter, Marie Blagg, address unknown; a stepdaughter, Priscilla Richmond at home; two sons, George and Jack Blagg, address unknown; a stepson, Kevin Richmond at home; two sisters, Juanita Self of Louisville, Ky., and Maxine Fox of Meadow Bridge; four halfsisters, Betty Stump of Rainelle, Kay Hunter of Meadow Bluff, Kendall Lane of Layland and Connie Garten of Danese; a brother, Herbert G. Blagg of Russellville; and three halfbrothers, W. M. Blagg Jr. of Layland, Carl Blagg of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Dennis Blagg of Bis Gtone Gap, Va.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wed. Sept. 9 at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Bill Lilly officiating. Burial followed in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Nephews served as pallbearers.
