Gladys L. Lewis, 91, of Beckley, died in a local hospital Friday, April 23, 2004, following a short illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1912, at Spra-gue, she was the daughter of the late Park Walker "P.W." and Caroline Elizabeth Cheetham McClung.
Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church. She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil R. Lewis Sr.; a son, Park Warner Lewis; three sisters, Mary Mullins, Sarah Vandall and Violet Smith; and seven brothers, Leslie, Bill, John, Emory, Alvaro, Harold and Ray McClung.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil R. Lewis Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Daniels and Ray Lewis and his wife, Joan, of Frederick, Md.; a daughter, Violet Lynch and her husband, Jack, of Winchester, Va.; three sisters, Helen Diggs of Frederick, Cora Cochran and her husband, Archie, of Scarbro, and Gayla Dennison and her husband, Harold "Dutch," of Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Frank Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Beckley.
Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Lewis, Jeff Lynch, Doug Wood, Chris Wood, John Crook and Steve Underwood.
