Joseph Raymond Sharrer, 75, of Westminster, died Saturday, June 4, 2011 at his home.
Born on October 26, 1935 in Detour, MD, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mildred Mort Sharrer. He was the husband of Wilma Hanson Sharrer, his wife of 54 years.
He was a graduate of Taneytown High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1958 to 1960. He retired from Black and Decker with more than 40 years of service. He was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church, an endowment member of the National Rifle Association, a competitive trapshooter, a hunter"s safety instructor and a former president of the Deep Run Rifle and Revolver Club. An avid sportsman, he also enjoyed training English Pointers for pheasant hunting.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters and sons-in-law Lisa and Vince Kilduff of Westminster and Laurie Jo and Rick Shuping of Landis, NC; sister Mary Louise Tracey of Taneytown; and sister and brother-in-law Rosie and Raymond Bentz of Thurmont. He was predeceased by brother Donald Sharrer and by sister Evelyn Sies.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Richard Shamer. Interment will be in Keysville Union Cemetery.
