Mr. Bourg passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT, surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Malone.
He is survived by his wife, Lesley Bourg; his children, Caleb Bourg and his wife Toni and Jacob Bourg and his wife Tedi, of Malone; the mother of his children, Dinah Manley; his grandchildren, Charlie Rose and Chase; his sister, Laura Bourg, of Lafayette, LA, and his brother, Henry Bourg, and his wife Carol Ann, of San Antonio, TX, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, John Bourg.
Alan was born on July 6, 1957, in Baton Rouge, LA, the son of the late George James and Ruth Arda Borde Bourg. He met Lesley King in 2003 and they married on July 1, 2011, at Chateaugay Lake, with the family sharing in their beautiful day. Alan worked as an electrician for IBEW 995 out of Baton Rouge, the local his grandfather co-founded. Through the union, his work brought him to Malone, NY, in 1989 for a project at Fort Drum. He then worked as an electrical trade vocational instructor for the NYS DOCCS, retiring after 29 years in July of 2022.
Alan was deeply committed to lifelong learning, a trait that was evident in his avid reading habits. When first coming to Malone, he eagerly explored nearly every book available at the Wead Library, constantly seeking to expand his knowledge and understanding. Beyond his intellectual pursuits, Alan was passionate about skiing with his two boys and all their cousins and friends at Titus Mountain. His love for music was equally profound. Alan was a talented guitarist, finding joy in strumming chords and belting out a tune as often as possible! His enthusiasm extended to his unwavering support for the Baton Rouge LSU Tigers football team, a passion that began at a very young age; Geaux Tigers! Despite all these interests and pursuits, Alan held family above all else, considering it the most important aspect of his life, cherishing every moment spent with Lesley and loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to The American Cancer Society or Hospice of the North Country.
