GRASSY MEADOWS - Robin D. Akers, 16, of Grassy Meadows, drown June 13, 1987 in the New River at Sandstone.
Born October 27, 1970 at Hinton, she was a daughter of Robert Harold and Frances McCutcheon Akers. She was a student of Greenbrier West High School and was a member of the Jehovah Witness Congregation of Lilly Park in Rainelle. Survivors include: 2 sisters, Tabatha Thomas of Ferrum, VA, and Jamie Akers at home; 1 brother, Benjamin of Mt. Airy, N.C., and Maternal Grandmother Mrs. Dova McCutcheon of Leivasy.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle with Speaker Curtis Guyer officiating. Burial was in the Wallace Memorial Cemtery in Clintonville.

TWO TEENAGERS DROWN IN THE NEW RIVER
SANDSTONE - Two teenagers on a church group outing on the New River in Summers County drowned Saturday when they were caught in the river's current, according to a spokeswoman for the state police detachment in Hinton. Robin D. Akers, 16, of Grassy Meadows, Greenbrier County, and Phillip Leon Meadows, 16, of Nettie, Nicholas County, drowned at about 5:45 p.m., according to state police reports. They had been wading in shallow water in the New River when, according to witnesses, the current swept them out into deep water in a matter of seconds. Attempts to rescue them were not successful, she said. The incident was investigated by Trooper J.S. Tincher.
Akers was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses at Lilly Park in Rainelle and was and was a student at Greenbrier West High School. Surviving: parents, Robert Harold and Frances McCutcheon Akers; sisters, Tabatha Thomas of Ferrum, Va., and Jamie Akers, at home; brother, Benjamin of Mount Airy, N.C.; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Dova McCutcheon of Leivasy. Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with speaker Curtis Guyer officiating. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with speaker Curtis Guyer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Nettie.
