EARL D. AKERS, 67, OF BIRCH RIVER, Nicholas County, died Jan. 24, 1993, at Charlottesville (Va.) Hospital of complications from surgery. He was a 50-year resident of Nicholas County and a disabled coal miner for Sewell Coal Co., Nettie. He was a member of UMW and attended Birch River Baptist Church and Cottle Church of God. Surviving: wife, Mary Flanagan Akers; sons, Earl Junior and Dale Eugene, both of Craigsville, David Lee of Bancroft, Mich., Carl D. of Richmond, Va., Bill E. of Tioga; daughters, Margaret Ellen Blake of Litchfield, Ohio, Charlotte M. Boggs of Corunna, Mich., Donna Kay Scott of Cottle; brothers, Chilton, Paul, Gilbert, Wilbert, Homer and Robert, all of Meadow Bridge, Sanford of Craigsville, Hobert of Nettie, Calvin of Chicago; sisters, Susie Hawkins of Ansted, Geneva Richmond of Meadow Bridge, Ruth Baggi of Summersville, Mazel Ramey and Audrey Thatcher, both of Pikeville, Ky.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cottle Church of God with the Rev. Sam Seletyn officiating. Burial will be in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood.
