Charles G. Nichols, 75, of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 2, 2009, following a long illness. He was born June 21, 1933 in Ritchie County, Cairo, West Virginia. He had resided in Lorain most of his life.
Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and served our country until 1955. Charles had worked and retired from Ford Motor Co., following 27 years of service. He and Dora took the trip of a lifetime to visit Israel in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending church. He was member of Beacon Baptist Church in Lorain.
Charles also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, horseshoes and singing at area nursing homes. He and his wife, Dora had renewed their wedding vows three times during their 56 years of marriage.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Dora (nee Cunningham) Nichols; sons, Charles Nichols (Linda) of Lorain, Stanley Nichols (Dawn) of Sheffield Lake, Michael Nichols of Lorain; daughters, Valerie Robin Kohut (David) of Oberlin, Cynthia Nichols of Lorain; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Marion Nichols of Cairo, West Virginia, James Nichols of Shinnston, West Virginia, Paul Nichols of Enterprise, West Virginia; sister, Catherine Hupp of Boise, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bessie (nee Rexroad) Nichols; brothers, John and Edward; and a sister, Ruby.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 4 to 7 P.M. at The Bauer-Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., (at State Rt. 57) Elyria, (440) 322-4626, where funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 10 A.M. Pastor Aaron Webb of Beacon Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, where VFW Post #1079 will provide full military honors.
