On Sunday, July 24th, 2011, our most loved Oneal Phipps passed away at the Summers County Hospital in Hinton. He was in his 78th year.
Everette Oneal Phipps was one of four children. He was born on May 9th, 1933, at Maynor. His parents were the late Everette and Sadie Taylor Phipps. His brother, Paul, and sister, Dolly, have preceded him in death this last year.
Oneal was a building contractor in Beckley. He made his home in Raleigh. He worked until he became ill this past February. Oneal enjoyed football, boxing, racing and proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid go-kart racer and World Karting champion of which many will remember.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Arlene Davis and Rusty Simmons of Hinton, a son, Everette Oneal Phipps II of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Delmer and Mary Ann of Toledo, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jason and Kevin Linville, both of Glen Daniel, and a great-granddaughter, Devin Linville. Other special people throughout his life were Betty Burgess, Martha Phipps, Dale and Jean Dickens.
When Oneal's health began to fail he made his home at the Summers County Nursing and Rehab Center. A special thanks goes out to the staff for their dedication and excellent care of "Our Dad."
This Wednesday, July 25th, at 1 p.m. we will remember the life of Oneal Phipps with a service at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour. In keeping with his wishes, Oneal will be cremated following his services.
