James Wilmer "Cannon Ball" Canaday, age 79, of Glen View, West Virginia, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 30, 2010. Born on April 25, 1931, at MacArthur, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles M. Canaday and Dicie Daniels Canaday Thompson.
Wilmer was a resident of the Crab Orchard area most of his life, and attended the Glen White Church of God. He enjoyed spending time with his family, including his many grandchildren. Wilmer was a coal miner for over 27 years, and retired from the Westmoreland Coal Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Walter Canaday, by grandsons, Joshua Adam Canaday and Zachary Noah Canaday, a great-granddaughter, Jordan Paige Crump, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Wilmer will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Mae Bragg Canaday.
4 sons: Carles L. Canaday and his wife Effie of Crab Orchard; James W. Canaday and his wife Elaine of Crab Orchard, WV; Donald C. Canaday and his wife Tish of Moody, Alabama; Robert Canaday and his wife Lora of Stem, North Carolina.
3 daughters: Ida M. McCoy of Crab Orchard, WV; Lilly C. Rutherford and her husband Lyn of Converse, Louisiana; Shelia R. Crump and her husband Fuzzy of Crab Orchard, WV.
A sister, Cordelia Beaver of Springfield, Massachusetts.
11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV, on Monday, January 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Brother Jesse Farley and Brother Leonard Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, West Virginia. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. His sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
