Herschel E. "Jake" Whisman, Jr, 78, of Rainelle passed away on August 3, 2024 at CAMC-General.
Jake was born on January 15, 1946; he was the son of the late Margaret and Herschel Whisman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Forren and a brother, Joel Whisman.
Jake was a lifelong resident of Rainelle. He was a proud SGT in the United States Marine Corp from 1964-1972 and he did two tours in Vietnam 1968-1969 where he was awarded numerous medals including a purple heart. Jake was also a proud Deputy of Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department for 32 years where he served as SGT K9 unit.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Candace L. Whisman; daughter, Carrie (Bobby) Ralston; son, Jacob (Melissa) Whisman ; 4 grandchildren, Emily Dove, Wyatt Dove, James Whisman and Nathan Whisman; two brothers, Michael (Myrna) Whisman and Fritz (Janet) Whisman; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2024 at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville with Mr. Robert Ralston officiating.
