Dr. Doff D. Daniel Jr., 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, following a brief illness.
He was born in Raleigh County on March 15, 1923, to Dr. Doff and DeMerse Daniel and was the grandson of Dr. G.P. and Nettie Mae Daniel.
He obtained both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the Air Force as a physician with the rank of captain. While attending the University of Virginia he met the late Joan Crawford Daniel to whom he was married for 40 years until her death in 1987. Dr. Daniel was a specialist in internal medicine who practiced in Beckley until shortly before his death.
He is survived by his children, Cheryl Daniel of Morganton, N.C., and Doff Daniel III of Beckley. Cheryl and Doff would like to express their gratitude for their father?s example of integrity and compassion, and for the guidance he provided throughout his life. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. John M. Daniel of Beckley; his sister, Mrs. Joan Powell of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Dr. Daniel touched many lives during his years of dedicated medical service. He will be greatly missed by his patients, colleagues, friends and family. Those wishing to honor Dr. Daniel?s memory and his work are requested by the family to make a contribution to a community or medical charity in lieu of flowers.
Memorial service for Dr. Daniel will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Eric Miller officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
The family will receive friends noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
