Clyde Harold Shawver, 74, of Beckley, died Saturday, June 21, 2003 in a Beckley area Veterans Center following a short illness. Born June 20th, 1929 at Corliss, he was the son of the late Oscar Clyde and Alma Anise Stover Shawver. Mr. Shawver spent his childhood at Corliss. He was a 1947 graduate of Nutall High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 serving during the Korean Conflict. He held the rank of 1st LT when he was discharged in 1954. When growing up he became a member of the United Methodist Church at Corliss. The past 13 years he has attended St. Mary's United Methodist Church on South Kanawha Street. Harold has been a resident of Beckley since 1964 coming from Chesapeake. He was a retired auto mechanic from Grady Whitlock Ford with 27 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine May Gill Shawver in August of 1998; and two brothers, Herman Elmer and Herbert Harrison Shawver. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Worley and husband Keith and their children, Shaleena and Kristina, all of Beckley; two brothers, Howard Ray Shawver and wife Thelma of Beckley and Henry Lee Shawver and wife Karen of Bradenton, Fla.; two nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's United Methodist Church at 2012 South Kanawha Street, Beckley with the Revs. Steve Rector and Jim Reid officiating. Burial will follow in the High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill. Friends may call this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church. Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
