KATHERINE GENEVA "NANNY" MALLORY CYRUS, 89, of Barboursville passed away Saturday, May 15, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in White Chapel Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Brent Gibson officiating. Katherine was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Guyandotte, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Artie Phipps Mallory Merritt and William Cole Mallory. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Hysell Mallory; four sisters, Margaret Cyrus, Marie Hope Allen, Cora Emma Fowble and Artie Jo Merritt Jordan; and a special aunt, Myrtle Mallory, with whom she made her home as a child. Katherine is survived by her husband of 67 years, Hughie Allen Cyrus; one daughter, Katherine Jane McDermott and her husband, William "Bill" McDermott of Ona; two grandchildren, Alan McDermott and his wife Lynda of Milton and Misty Adkins and her husband Shannon of Ona; four great-grandsons, William and Adam McDermott of Milton and Keegan and Kylar Adkins of Ona; two sisters, Billie Cole Pinson and Sara Jacks; two very special friends, Linda Stephens, her caregiver, and Lana Thompson; and a host of nieces and nephews. She attended Morris Harvey College, where she was a chemistry major. Katherine was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church , Barboursville Chapter #95 Order of the Eastern Star, V.F.W. # 1064 Ladies Auxiliary and Silver Clover 4-H leader. She was a former cook for Cabell County Board of Education at Watson School and a seamstress for Wash Rite Laundry. She was a quilter and will be remembered by her quilts. Pallbearers will be Alan, William and Adam McDermott, Rodney Ashworth, Michael "Butch" Cyrus and Shannon Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Keegan and Kylar Adkins. Friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
