CRAWLEY ? Jimmy Leon King, 77, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, in the Beckley VA Medical Center, following a long illness.
Born on Feb. 23, 1933, at Gatewood, he was the last member of the John Lloyd and Eliza Belle Rutter King family.
Jimmy was a master craftsman. He loved working with wood. He was also known in the mining industry as a coal operator in the area. He was an avid outdoorsman when he was able. Jimmy was a member of the Rainelle VFW Post No. 4484 and of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his seven brothers, Paul, Russell, Obey, Okey, John Douglas, Jackie and Arkie King, and six sisters, Hester and Ester King, Geraldine Miller, Betty Crookshanks, Frances Carte and Bonnie Crookshanks.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hunter King; a son, Jimmy King II and wife, Cristy, of Bridgeport; four daughters, Retha Gum and husband, Dan, of Clintonville, Sarah McFerrin and husband, Randy, of Williamsburg, Holly King of Clintonville and Amy Nelson and husband, Ronald, of Meadow Bluff; nine grandchildren, Jessica Williams (Victor), Kimberly Gum, Joshua McFerrin, Bethany McFerrin, Payton Williams, Brooklyn Crist, Aurora King, Abraham King and Emmalee Nelson; and two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Joseph Williams.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Tincher officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Amwell Cemetery at Crawley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the funeral home.
