DAWSON -- Everett Houston Rodes, 86, of Dawson, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2005, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness.
Born Aug. 6, 1918, at Sevy Bridge, he was the son of the late Kenna C. and Ada McClung Rodes.
He served in the 62nd Regiment of the U.S. Army during World War II, was a retired auto mechanic and farmer, and a member of the Maude Chapel United Methodist Church, Dawson.
Mr. Rodes was also preceded in death by his wife, Vada Anderson Rodes; a brother, Paul C. Rhodes; and a grandson, Jules Shawn Rodes.
Survivors include two sons, Jerome Rodes and wife, Marsha, and Gary Rodes and wife, Beverly, all of Dawson; three daughters, Judy Dean and husband, Richard, of Morehead, N.C., Jotina Walker and husband, Johnnie, of Dawson, and Jill Osborne and husband, Doug, of Dawson; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Maude Chapel United Methodist Church, Dawson, with the Revs. Roy Gwinn and Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call from 7 until 9 p.m. today at Smathers Funeral Chapel and at the church one hour prior to services.
