LEWISBURG -- Nellie M. Hayes, 95, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Hayes was born Aug. 6, 1909, at Rupert, the daughter of the late Paul Hudson McClung and Elizabeth Shawver McClung.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a graduate of Marshall College and was a retired teacher, having taught for 36 years in Greenbrier County Schools. She was a member of Old Stone Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Curtis Hayes; a sister, Pauline Tincher; and a brother, Lloyd McClung.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth H. Bower and husband, Jim, of Lewisburg; a son, William Curtis "Bill" Hayes Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Crawley; two granddaughters, Tracey Dare and husband, Dan, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Meredith Canterbury and husband, Doug, of Lewisburg; a great-grandson, Tyler Canterbury of Lewisburg; a sister-in-law, Alice H. Shields of Lewisburg; a brother-in-law, Joe Black Hayes of Lewisburg; several nieces and nephews; and four loving caregivers.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Dexter Taylor officiating.
There will be no visitation.
