Violet E. McClung Stover Smith, 85, of Beckley, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, following a long illness.
Born March 24, 1915, at Sprague, she was the daughter of the late Park Walker and Caroline E. Cheetham McClung.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church, Prosperity, which was founded in her home in 1952. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family very much. She enjoyed sewing, singing in the choir and supporting missionary projects for her church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbert Cecil Stover; an infant daughter, Florance Caroline Stover; two sisters, Mary Mullens and Sarah Vandall; and six brothers, Leslie, William, John, Emery, Harold and infant Alvaro McClung.
Survivors include her husband of 22 years, George E. "Dick" Smith; two sons, Char-les Stover of Medina, Ohio, and Jerry Stover of Gerbaldi, Ore.; a daughter, Diana Sprague and husband, Jim, of Gig-harbor, Wash.; a stepson, George Bartusiak of Beckley; a stepdaughter, Sue Legursky of Beckley; a brother, Ray McClung and wife, Gearline, of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Gladys Lewis of Beckley, Helen Diggs of Frederick, Md., Cora Cochran and husband, Archie, of Scarbro, and Gayla Dennison and husband, H.L., of Baltimore, Md.; a devoted niece, Joyce Cochran of Glendora, Calif.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Service will be 8 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Hal-sey officiating. Entombment will follow Saturday in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be the men of Faith Baptist Church.
