Robert G. Smith, 77, Is Taken By Death
Robert G. Smith, 77, of the Green Valley Addition, Crab Orchard, died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday in a Beckley hospital after a four-year illness, attributed to a kidney condition. He became seriously ill Tuesday.
He had resided in Raleigh County the past 44 years. A retired coal miner, he was employed for 23 years at Eccles.
Born Nov. 19, 1875, in Monroe County, he was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Lester and United Mine Workers Local 5770.
His parents, Jiles Henry and Mary Hall Smith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Willard Quindora Smith, three brothers, Wilson, Piney View; French, Miami, Fla.; and Morris, Princeton; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Weatherford, Oak Hill; Mrs. Della Dillon, Princeton; Mrs. G. W. Keatley, Bozoo; Mrs. Mae Severn, Miami; and Mrs. Minnie Smith, New York.
The body will be removed to the residence at 4 p.m. Thursday from the Calfee Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 Friday in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church by the Rev. Alvis Jacobs and the Rev. B. C. Jennings. Burial will follow in the Calfee Cemetery, Mt. Tabor.
Pallbearers will be: W. S. Carter, Ralph Bolen, Walter Pendry, Ira Hurt, William Lawson, and Virgil Wood.
