  West Virginia Daily News, 15 September 1984 Clara Phipps McVey, 80, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Alderson, died September 4 at an Alexandria, Va., nursing home following an extended illness. Born in Winifred, on Nov. 1, 1903, she was the daughter of the late James W. Elliott and Stella Holstein Elliott. She was a member of the Lincolnia United Methodist Church and member of the Alderson Chapter 119 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as past matron in 1956 and 1957. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Phipps of Alexandria, Charles L. Phipps of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Betty L. Briscoe of Arlington, Va.; four stepsons, Alden McVey of Lake Charles, La., Dyer & Tom of Ansted and Gordon of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Fred Elliott of Mt. Hope; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday at the Greenbrier Cemetery in Alderson at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Hubert Groves officiating. Burial will be in Greenbrier Cemetery. Friends may call at Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson after 10 a.m. Friday.
